My only problem with the Buffyverse

human + vampirism + magic ring, spell, huge amounts of sublock, whatever + soul - tricky conditions and/or limitations like Angel had (Spike didn't seem to have them) = superhuman + no apparent downside
Does anybody here know of a universal downside more severe than not being able to eat garlic bread, or have any interesting thoughts on the matter?

Except still having the hunger feel that vampires get without killing humans to get it.
Since after he got his soul back all the killing he did as Angelus weighted on him like a ton of bricks.

We do know that in the serie "Angel" his fridge is filled with blood. I haven't seen every eps of the serie so i do not really know where he got that from(and without killing people or draining animals robbing bloodbanks would be my only idea).

Pig's blood, from a butcher. He refuses to drink human blood as apparently this makes vampires more bloodthirsty -- even when he later CAN have as much as he wants, he refuses and also disallows Harmony to drink it. Spike presumably drinks animal blood as well just because he is a nice guy at heart (heh).

Spike really has no downside (in Angel anyway, after being resurrected). Even in the comics he remains a badass -- and unlike Angel he never signed away his right for the Shanshu Prophecy so Spike might yet get his reward. It's a problem for the comic writers as well, that's why they keep coming up with lame plots to make Angel seem more awesome than Spike. As if. Spike won't turn into Mr Evil just for drinking a human once...


As for downside to being a souled Buffyverse vampire... nothing really but a craving you cannot satisfy or risk drawing Slayer attention to yourself, and apparently being cold all the time. Missing out on sunlight must be annoying since both Angel and Spike welcome any chance they get to catch the rays whenever some Mystical Gizmo Of The Week allows them to.

But the ones in Buffy are omnster didn't you see their faces go wrinkly?

Well you have to buy blood from the butchers but that is the only real downside. That and you will probably be spending a hell of a lot on sun scream. Everyone will also automatically think you're an Athiest or non Christian so I'd stay away from zealots.

With the exception of Angel,who was cursed by gypsies for killing one of their own,and Spike who went a bit crazy,decided it'd be an awesome idea to get a soul,all vampires in the Buffyverse are monsters.They drink blood,they kill,rape and torture,and in one instance,goes so far as enslaving the whole of Sunnydale-and by extension I guess the world in time-and then draining the human population like we get milk from cattle.

It's pigs blood.It's shown in Buffy in one episode that he buys it from butchers and slaughter houses.He doesn't drink human blood because of the guilt,and it makes it harder to resist opening up the veins of the people around him.

Although there is a thing that even though he signed the Shanshu Prophecy,Angel is still in the running to get that shiny reward at the end of the day,due to something like it something that can't just be signed away as easily as that.Or something.

Actually, from what I remember, vamps in the Buffyverse are mostly evil and predatory. Yeah, you'll have weird things happen like Angel and Spike who become good from getting their souls back (which has the downside of never being able to experience true happiness). But most of the vamps are bloodthirsty killers.

You are right about the vamps from Twilight, I wish someone would go in and slaughter those kids.

...why, when you get bitten by a vamp, do you suddenly seem to be able to learn Kung Fu?

Tbh, I find Spike the best portrayal of a vampire since...I dunno when. The dude is just perfect! Unlike Angel, who switches between bitchy, moody, and pointlessly evil at the slightest provocation (kissing Buffy then jumping out a window in full-on Vamp mode anyone?) Spike knows his weaknesses as a vampire, yet insists on finding ways to get around them, whereas Angel just mopes about them.

There are worse things than Buffy vampirism. Besides, consider the nature of the show. It was not always serious. It gets campy, and it gets funny. So, don't worry about it.

Blade did it pretty well, the only vampires immune to the usual standbys being Blade(because hes half vampire) and Dracula.

Blade did it pretty well, the only vampires immune to the usual standbys being Blade(because hes half vampire) and Dracula.

I refuse to acknowledge that abomination as Dracula, Triple H however was the best part of that movie
