So I was looking at the news and I have come the conclusion that no matter what we do, this planet of ours is screwed (unless some drastic changes are made). So i was thinking you go to a new planet, there are no humans just plants, animals, and what not. You are first on this new planet so you get to make the rules; what will you call it, who would you let live there, what rules/laws whould you establish as the most important that need to be followed, how should people be allowed to live, ect.

It wouldn't matter, in a few generations they would change. Look at America now compared to when it was formed, you could even look at Britain now compared to the 1700's.

However:
I'd call it Atheiana
Try and keep it just for Atheists, less chance of war unless South Park is anything to go by (Go God Go).
Rules would severely punish rape, pedophilia and murder, drugs would be legal but monitored and taxed, religious demonstrations would incur a house arrest followed by deportation to space.
people would be allowed to go about their business as they see fit, just no unemployment welfare, forces job hunting. This could be much longer.

Also would enforce a Starship trooper like government and person system, civilians and citizens, each have different levels of rights.

It'd be a mixture of Western governments and a few Far-Eastern ones. Study everyone's laws and find out what works best. Make any needed changes. Academics would be at the forefront, since we won't really need an army. But the few soldiers we have will have power-armor and look kick-ass.

That, and Mondays are 'naked day' at work. Unless you have a really good reason to wear clothes.

Well, there wouldn't be humans. I'd be the only one- well, maybe bring a male mate along. Pull an Adam and Eve here. Of course, if this IS my own world, then all of the animals will be capable of mind speech. I will be their outcast leader, their god, and I will live in a utopia of furry friends! MUWAHA!

On behalf of chicks everywhere, I think you may find you'd end up with a planet of outlaw lesbians and have to kill your time playing with condom water balloons.

I think if you're looking at long term sustainability, a no-human planet would have to be the answer. OR a planet with humans but no fossil fuels, so from the start we'd be more planet friendly without having to go through the whole process of discovering fission then using it to make factories that pollute, then discovering its bad for the planet and having to find a way to give it up.

Lol I should have seen that coming. Lesbians and water balloons might actually be a winning combination.

Okay, well maybe this is a little on the nose, considering where I'm posting it, but anyone can come if they pass the entrance exam. Part one is an IQ test and part two is a nerd test. Right there, I've achieved world peace and prosperity. It would be like living in Comic-con. Tell me you wouldn't try to get in.

I'd call it "No Humans Allowed" and invite only a few people of our race. Peter Jackson, Matt Groening, and Gabe Newell are allowed. Ah, crap. Girls. Erm...I suppose the woman who played Silk Specter 2 can come along. And Cameron Diaz. That is all.
4 guys, 2 girls? how that gonna work?
Every hole's a goal.

I can only figure out some things:
1: It might be called Viridian, because I can't think of anything better and like the sound.

2: Punishments for non accident crimes would be quite harsh. For instance a person who shot someone in a gang war would be given a much harsher than a person who overreacted to a burglary, or if they thought (within reason) they were being attacked.

3: Warthogs, and variants of cool militarized vehicles would be much more common.

4: There would be breeding laws, that people are taught from childhood.

5: People would be taught fairness, equality and other nice ideals from childhood.

6: It would be a "green" planet. I want to keep it pretty.

7: Hunting would be illegal. I don't like animals that much, I just think they look cooler in nature.

8: No rabbits, foxes, spiders, snakes or hopefully rats would ever reach the surface.

9: Cities would be designed in patterns making them easier to navigate, easier to defend and prettier.

10: Police would be picked more selectively, and the notion that it is a great honour to serve as a police officer would be instilled throughout society.

11: Police would be highly trained.

12: Large areas of nature reserves.

13: Scientists have to get cracking on important stuff, no more idiots wasting a college education to later in life work for a company to make their product seem better.

14: Most Businesses would be owned by the government.

15: All products, from hover cars to walkie talkies would be severely tested, I want to make sure that this society is safe.

16: You need a license and regular psych evaluation of your whole family before you can own a weapon, and even then I still might ban them.

17: School is for learning, children will be punished for not making the most of their education. They may only slack off if they and their parents sign a contract to get a designated job, which they may or may not pick, depending on whether or not more people are needed in a particular field. They are then given basic schooling, then sent to that job.

18: Above contract is legally binding, punishable by prison time.

19: Prisons would be as close to hell as possible, depending on the crime. Murderers, rapists and other unwanteds would go through something akin to ancient Rome's gladiator fights, except no weapons and no one is allowed to watch.

20: Prison gangs would not be allowed, anyone caught in one is allowed to be executed, depending on the decision of a court.

I may add more.

I'd try to go with some kind of social utopia(acceptance, liberal values, golden rule, yadda yadda) but unless you have done sth about the unequal distribution of resources and energy you're likey to end with the same problems like we got here. Maybe a more open society would hold out longer but in the end its all the same.
So while things go as they go try to reach the technological singularity. Bam!Tabula rasa!
With the Ais becoming smarter and smarter there are multiple options:
1)humans profit from the more and more godlike AIs and join them. posthumans live happily with uplifted lobsters and AIs in the silver spyre tower cities of the future(*ahem*)
2)humans are left behind by the Ais which set to turn the new solar system into a form more fitting to their whims, ignoring the will of these ants on the planet. Uhm, not that cool.
