Let me first preface this by describing my tastes: I am your typical teenage guy, age 15. I listen to electro, dubstep, and underground rap. I am a fan of RPG's, and adventure games mostly, holding story and writng first and foremost. I hang out with friends, I text girls, the whole package.Aight, so you know like the entire internet is pretty much on way over the other over this whole pony nonsense? Well, while I was bored tonight, i decided to check this out. After a quick look at the wikipedia article, I saw that it said something alon the lines of people going crazy over its story and characters, two of the highest things I hold in regards to most media. After a quick google search, I watched the first episode. And afterwards, I was confused. Why all the fuss over this? Now, I'm not hatin on it or anything, but I just don't get it. Its not shit like haters say, yet its not Jesus like the "bronies" claim, on the other hand. I couldn't tell at times if I was supposed to be laughing or not, most of the humor was just juvinle, slapstick mishaps, common in childrens tv. In regards to the characters, as with most tv, they usually get fleshed out in the future, however, most weren' that interesting. The rainbow one just came across as downright annoying. The protagonist I found amusing only due to the fact that she was saying pretty much word for word smartass comments I make towards my friends when were chilling, and they talk about me not being on xbox or something, and I joke about having a social life. Th Pink one was kind of amusing, I guess, with the only one to peak my interest was shutterfky, who even manged to coax a smirk from me. All in all, It just seemed like another children's show, pretty much like every show I hear in the backround while babysitting. However, I am open to arguments in favor of it from fans themselves. Does it get better later? Do I just not get it? I don't know. Convince me.
tl;dr: I watched the first episode and wasn't impressed. convince me otherwise.

Edit: okay, just to clear up, several people have said something along the lines of, "you don't need to like it." And some have even gotten angry over it. Please cut that out. I am not attempting to argue about something as trivial as a television show. I am not trolling.

I'll do what a fellow brony told me to do: Watch Episode 9.

Episodes 1, 2, and 3 set up future events, while a majority of the rest just introduce characters.

I don't know about you, but 9 is what sold me.

The first two episodes are just trying to get the set n such out of the way, so yes, after getting through that wall of text, if you're so inclined you can give it some more. I don't care to be honest, due what you will with your time.

Oh, and you're probably going to get shit for making another pony thread.

Why does everyone have to get it?

It's not for everyone, it's also not that big of a deal.

edit. if you are truly interested, I suggest you join FiM user group just for a moment and ask there. It's just that every pony thread devolves into a flame war insanely easily here.

The first few episodes aren't very good, and just set things up, so skip a few, or you just might not like it

Does anyone else hear Fluttershy when they hear the "Shutter Fly" commercial?

I'm partial to episode 7 myself. And it's the episode where Fluttershy really shines.

Sorry, bro, its 11:30 in Kansas City, and I'm tired as hell. I spell checked, but that's it. I apologize, and I'll try fix it tomorrow.

Troll be Trollin. Sorry it just seems like thats what your doing.

Now for something helpful, I suggest watching one of the later episodes as the pilot episodes had the tendency to be lack luster.

You're forgetting one MAJOR thing, it's animation and voice acting are PHENOMENAL! The colour pallet is wondrously vibrant, and the shader model is one of the best I've ever seen outside Japan or Disney.
Also, I don't understand what your problem is with Rainbow Dash, she's awesome once you understand her character's place in the show.
Plus, I've always found the comedy to be very unique, there's a reason it spawns at least 3 internet memes per episode.

This is the second best episode if you ask me, behind lesson Zero, but you kinda have to have watched the series for a while to understand that one...
If nothing else you can appreciate the Star Trek reference...

No.

I am not your entertainment arbiter. Nobody else is either. If you don't like it, fair enough. It's not something you have to be coerced, cajoled and convinced into liking.
If you can't understand why people would choose to watch this cartoon, then evidently it's not for you, so put it out of your mind and move on.

Well, the show isn't for everyone, I'll admit that. It's not some hypnotic drug that captivates you against your will. However, I will say that if you want to find out what's so good about the show, episode one is not the place to start. I started there and there were a couple times where I was tempted to turn it off, not because it was bad per se, but because I didn't see anything special. But it was good enough and my curiosity compelled me to watch a couple more episodes and I never turned back. I would suggest watching episode 7 (dragonshy) episode 10 (swarm of the century) episode 16 (sonic rainboom), or episode 25 (party of one). Again, if you watch it and feel it isn't your cup of tea, then don't feel like your missing something. It's not for everyone. I myself love the show for various reasons, but I know my brothers would probably hate it.

People think all bronies fell instantly in love but it isn't the case, I had to watch 1-7 just to start liking the show and it took me 8-11 for to fall in love with it. The beginning few episodes are rough, but it gets better. much much better, watch a few more in a row or watch randoms episodes, you will barley miss anything from watching them out of order except for a few gags that need episode order.

If you don't like it than, it is totally fine, every brony knows it isn't for anyone, we just don't like it when we are insulted for liking when that same person completely dismisses it. You have bigger balls than most to even at least tried to watch it.

Actually I applaud the OP for being open-minded enough to at least give it a go, instead of just dismissing it outright like so many seem to do.
No, no you mis-understand my meaning, my good fellow. I meant he sounded like he was trolling due to the tone and content of his post. EG.
I am your typical teenage guy, age 15...
Additionally, the amount of spelling mistakes made me swing more towards this impression but I wasn't aiming to imply that he was trolling since he mentioned MLP and his endeavours to watch it.
