This has nothing to do with which is better , or which you prefer.
I keep finding myself in a middle ground for both these systems and enjoying some of there finer points.
For one i have started with a xbox 360 , then switch to a PS3 , then back and forth a couple times. As i have not had enough money to own both at the same time.
I enjoy the "free" online play through the PS3 , and i also enjoy the fact that i can play games with some of the people at work once in a while.
The 360 i enjoy the better feel for the things it does have, the online aspect costs money but feels more polished, the people tend to be a bit cleaner if you understand my meaning.
Yet i can't pick between the two.

For anyone that does know , which would be the best choice for someone that wants to
A)use a external hard drive to watch tv shows/movies/music from , so which has a better media player and which organizes them easier and better.
B)has anyone else been finding the two systems so simlar that its been hard to pick "just one"?

I believe that the PS3 works better for this, as it can read any FAT32 formatted Hard Drive. Just from experience, it sorts things fairly nicely for you.

Not me, as I have both and love playing each console's exclusives.

In a PS3 vs 360 situation it really all comes down to the exclusives, and I guess the small things like the feel of the controller and the online. So if you are in the situation of either one is fine for you I would say just choose the one with the exclusives you are more interested in.

Though if you are looking to use one as a media player as well PS3 is much better at it.

As it goes, at the start of this gen the Ps3 was the best console and the 360 had the best exclusive titles.

As time went by the Ps3 is still the best console but seems to have caught up to the 360 games wise

Right now the only advantage the 360 really has is a better online service though the fact that the Ps3 gives you free internet, built-in wireless, built-in chargeable controller and built-in hard-drive that's bigger than the 360s, I would say it evens itself out...no wait, I'd say Ps3 is better.

By the way, I've not had my Ps3 slim for very long and I already like it the best this gen

Wait...the people are cleaner? Ehhhhhhhhh?

a) I've found if you're playing music from an MP3 you can't playlist on Ps3 so for organisation use 360 I think.
b) For games I research which console gives the most benefits, if both are the same then I'll buy it on the console it was originally developed for.

This stinks of a VS thread. PS3 because of the Blue Ray player and Free internet BUT the 360 due to the better game library and popularity (remember kids, popularity means you don't get beat up in the playground!). I prefer the PS3 personally but it is irrelevant if I'm having fun.

I've owned four 360s. They're all dead. I've used and borrowed friend's PS3s and I know people who have had PS3s for a very long time and they never die. Point 1 for PS3.

I, however, don't like the feel of the PS3 controller. It's simply not shaped right for my hand. Of course, most of the buttons feel higher quality than a 360 pad, so I'm going to call it a tie.

As far as games go, I find that I played the PS3 more than the 360, and it has generally more interesting games (kinda). Point for PS3.

The PS3 is has generally stronger graphics capabilities, but you definitely notice the mere 256 megs of RAM (360 has 512 megs). Not sure where that falls. PS3 will definitely last longer as devs unlock more of its horsepower.

However, all of this is rendered moot, as I have a gaming PC. Keep in mind that I'm an Apple Fanboy and started gaming with a console, but no console game can hold a candle to a game on the PC. Even awful console ports are better on the PC because I can run them at higher resolutions than any TV, I can play them whenever I want without having to switch out disks, and the online communities of games on the PC are far more interesting and nuanced than any community on consoles.

In my book, it goes: 360 << PS3 <<<<<< PC

Glad to see this hasn't descended into open warfare yet.

When it comes to a toss up between a multi-plat title I generally go for the 360 version. With a few (but notable) exceptions 360 games tend to look and perform slightly better than their ps3 counterparts, not enough to warrant buying one system over the other but if you'e got both you may as well for for the one with the slightly better framerate. I'm also more comfortable with the 360 controller as I've got giant-ass bear hands.

That being said I've owned three 360's and two of them have died on me. That's two too many in my book. Throw in the fact that the PS3 is more reliable, has more quality exclusives (math people), is a fairly decent media centre, doubles as a Blu Ray player and has a free online service (albeit in my opinion a crappy one. That being said paying for whatever live actually is is bullshit and console users shouldn't stand for it) and it becomes very hard indeed to recomend a 360 over a ps3 at the same price point.

As for the Wii? Biggest paperweight I've ever spent 300 bucks on.

Really? I find the 360 so much easier to use. Although I use them mainly for games and not all the other stuff. Although being able to surf the net without getting up, kicking the wife out of her PC MMO because I need help is a definite plus for the PS3. Then again the majority having mics makes the 360 a funner ingame online experience. I am gonna call a draw on this one.

I've had little experience with the PS3, but it seems like a fine console. I recently played MW2 on it, and despite MW2 being fairly annoying to play in general, it worked alright. The triggers on the controller are a bit annoying, but it worked alright.

I personally game on a 360. Why? Because I had to buy something to play Guitar Hero 2, and I picked the 360. I like it, it has a good controller, good games, and despite people constantly saying how it RRoD's all the time, I've only had it happen to me once in my 2+ years of owning a 360.

Well, i just use my consoles for gaming and MP; If anything, making people pay for MP is a good move, since it makes the community slightly more refined (And yet its still not that good half the time). Other than that, i think both consoles are essentially the same. My PS3 had a brain seizure once, but thats all thats ever happened to either.

PS3 for media playing, no doubt. I prefer it in general, but that is really just because of the controller. Sure, there are differences, but there isn't any clear winner. I suppose the Wii is a clear loser?
The Wii doesn't even have a DVD player.
Wow, just wow... Thats terrible, even the PS2 had a DVD Payer. I think we should all agree, the kids have had there fun (as well as the minor celebrities who barge into family homes to play with them), we should now just round up all the Wii's and burn them.

I like the 360 simply for the controller tbh
This, except I prefer the PS3 for the Dualshock controller. If you find yourself with a preference for either controller, that should settle the deal on which console to choose, as there's really nothing more important to gaming than how well you can actually "game" on your console.

If controllers and exclusives are all the same, then the PS3 is also a great and sleek media player aside from being a gaming console though, but it's more expensive for that, and the Xbox360 so far always performs better (i.e. less technical problems and sometimes slightly better graphics/draw distance) in crossplatform games whenever there's a difference, often gets DLC faster, is still a useable media player, and its (paid) online features are still superior.

Considering I've never played a PS3, I'm biased to 360. But when I was picking it, I picked it because more people I knew where getting it over PS3 and the PS3 cost a shitload. Now though, it would be harder to say. Both are within my budget now, and both have some decent exclusives.

I only have the PS3 since between it and the PC I can get any game I like to play (since most xbox 'exclusive' games end up on the PC). Having said that the PS3 is a better media player afaik, but I've never had a xbox so can't comment.

I find PS3 has better exclusives. I don't like FPS's that much, and thats all the 360 seems to have.

I'd probably go for the PS3, for the sole reason that it is not worth paying a monthly fee for multiplayer.
For now, I'm PC-only.

Considering almost everyone already owned a DVD player when the Wii came out it was actually a pretty sensible business decision not to include one.

As much as I have come to love my 360, every time it makes that chugging noise when it's reading a disc or turning on, it scares the shit out of me...=/

My problem with the PS3 is it acts like it'll out live me...0o
