Anyone who knows who the band Clutch is KNOWS who they are. Amazing rock band from Germantown, Maryland. Anyone who doesn't, I implore you to check them out.

Anyway, my best friend, my girlfriend and I drove two hours from Green Bay, WI to Madison to see Clutch perform at the Majestic Theatre. The concert consisted of four sets: Red Fang (kind of a garden variety rock band), Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band (almost stole the show with their country/blues presense. Man they were fun!), The Bakerton Group (Clutch's rock/psycedelic jam band alter ego), and finally Clutch. It started at 8pm and Clutch finished their encore at around 12:15am. And this was for only $30.

It was just amazing. No big production, no pyrotechnics, no pomp and circumstance...just hours of rocking. Clutch played everything from well-known (well known to those who know who they are, at least) to some deep cuts (Raised By Horses, The Yeti, etc.). My friend is a Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz listener, but he has borrowed my Clutch albums and tells me how much he loves them so I invited him along. He didn't appreciate what was going on, though. He was bored through The Bakerton Group set because it didn't have any "Joe Satriani stuff going on up there". Kind of made me sick to hear that. He won't be coming along next time. My girlfriend, on the other hand loved every minute of it with me.

I haven't been to a show that good in such a long time and it is refreshing to know that one can still find this kind of stuff out there for those willing to look for it. Any of you people have similar experiences?

I went to a Boston concert over the summer with one of my friends. The opener was a guy who said he had sung for Foreigner, but he must have been with them later in their life as a band, because he wasn't very good at all, even on the Foreigner staples like Jukebox Hero. The band was him, his brother, another family member (cousin or another brother, maybe), and some random fourth guy. They played a few Foreigner songs, as well as songs they had written and some covers of other groups' songs.

Lucky for us, Boston gave a great show that more than made up for having to listen to the terrible opening singer and half of his family for 45 minutes. Boston played every song from their Greatest Hits album, plus a few extras; doing it in style with great guitars, great vocals, and one of the spectacular light shows they do so well.

EDIT: Another story, I suppose; short, but... strange. A girl I know went to an Avenged Sevenfold concert a few months ago with some friends and one of her friends was stabbed with a screwdriver. Nobody was seriously hurt, but still...

I'm seeing Clutch for the second time on thursday in Portland, Maine! They're awesome! \m/

Other great bands I've seen live are

Tool - awesome playing and really cool stage decoration (huge screens playing the videos of the songs)

Rob Zombie - crazy stage decoration, like giant undead monsters reaching out for the audience, and a great performance by Zombie

Concerts are great ^__^

Is Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band playing with them? If so, you are in for a treat. They are so awesome. This was my second Clutch concert too. It was funny, the last time I went, it was the 10th anniversary to the day of the release of The Elephant Riders so they played damn near the whole album. This time, I was really hoping to hear some stuff from their S/T and they played Big News I and II, Escape From The Prison Planet, Spacegrass, and Animal Farm (my personal fav). It was so sweet.

I think they are opening for them, so I look forward to it!

That's cool about your first time you saw them. The first time that I saw them, I wasn't into them as much as I am now, and so I was disappointed that I didn't recognize many of the songs they played. But I've listened to them a lot more since then, so I'm really excited about this upcoming show!

Your name is awesome, btw - "You can rock it like Sir Sysiphus!" "Rock N' Roll Outlaw" is a great song, and S/T is a great album - I hope they play some songs from it tomorrow!

The Clutch show last night was awesome! There were these skinhead douches moshing, but not even that could ruin it! They played some great songs, "The House that Peterbilt", "The Yeti", "The Dragonfly", "Big News I" (but not II, oddly). And they played 3 new songs that were awesome as well. Great time!

And you were right, Reverend Payton and His Big Damn Band were awesome too! Not the sort of stuff I usually listen to, but I loved them (two words: washboard solo). I grabbed their new cd on the way out and even got it signed by the Reverend! My favorite new band, for sure.

Red Fang was alright, but nothing spectacular :/

So all in all, it was an awesome show!

I would have gone to see Metallica on Wednesday (25th Feb), but my brother didn't want to come and I wasn't going to go alone. When he changed his mind the tickets had sold out, what a boob.

Back when punk was not mainstream, I used to go to Vans Warped tour for some off the wall, dehydrated rock fests. I even went one year without sleeping the night before, and being a wee bit tipsy for 10 am. That cause me to be extremely dehydrated, especially in the 40 degrees weather, but it made for an unreal experience. On a side not, I actually tore my shorts at that show, so I had to walk around in my boxers, I got funny looks all day from people that wore ripped jeans, didn't make any sense.

ummm for concerts i've been to two so far

Dayglo Abortions with Skullkrusher and the 3tards, a couple more but they rest sucked. good old Canadian punk and i know the singer from Skullkrusher

the other being Combichrist, who was freaking awesome, cept the opening bands kinda sucked especially the douchenozzles that decided to do a horrible cover of Lucretia My Reflection by The Sisters of Mercy and then went on to butcher Liar by the Rollins Band

last year i went to see Ohgr and a few more. Ohgr was simply amazing, i was up really close too

Wow..they played House That Peterbilt? I'm jealous man. That must have been their deep, deep cut. The first time I went it was Big Fat Pig. I thought the new songs were great too. Definitely can't wait for that new album. Proably be about 8 months to a year, though.

I couldn't get enough of the Reverend's face during those solos:

Two more words:

Flaming Washboard!!!

Haha, yeah, she torched her washboard at my show too. They put on a really cool show - they really engage the audience, and the Reverend demonstrated how he plays the bassline as well as rhythm. Crazy talented.

And yeah, I was psyched about Peterbilt :D one of my favorite songs.
