Anyone who knows who the band Clutch is KNOWS who they are. Amazing rock band from Germantown, Maryland. Anyone who doesn't, I implore you to check them out.
Anyway, my best friend, my girlfriend and I drove two hours from Green Bay, WI to Madison to see Clutch perform at the Majestic Theatre. The concert consisted of four sets: Red Fang (kind of a garden variety rock band), Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band (almost stole the show with their country/blues presense. Man they were fun!), The Bakerton Group (Clutch's rock/psycedelic jam band alter ego), and finally Clutch. It started at 8pm and Clutch finished their encore at around 12:15am. And this was for only $30.
It was just amazing. No big production, no pyrotechnics, no pomp and circumstance...just hours of rocking. Clutch played everything from well-known (well known to those who know who they are, at least) to some deep cuts (Raised By Horses, The Yeti, etc.). My friend is a Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz listener, but he has borrowed my Clutch albums and tells me how much he loves them so I invited him along. He didn't appreciate what was going on, though. He was bored through The Bakerton Group set because it didn't have any "Joe Satriani stuff going on up there". Kind of made me sick to hear that. He won't be coming along next time. My girlfriend, on the other hand loved every minute of it with me.
I haven't been to a show that good in such a long time and it is refreshing to know that one can still find this kind of stuff out there for those willing to look for it. Any of you people have similar experiences?
