im sure you all know the UK government is cutting its spending over the next four years. one of the groups being threatened is the military (mostly airforce) who face base closures and a thought came to me. instead of closing bases they should open them up to the public. they could charge rich executives to be passangers in military planes, they could have team building exercises for employees and they would make a fortune from stag weekends. not to mention theres ranges and obstacle courses too and all the facilities for accomdation and food are inplace

i post this idea in jest but i was an aircadet and these activities where really fun and i could see people paying alot for this.

edit: people looking to exercise or lose weight could go for that aspect too

Hmm it's an interesting idea...

However allowing civilians in a military aircraft is never a good idea.

Opening a base up completely is a security risk. Unfortunately terrorists do still exist.

And stag parties would be a huge nono as they could mess up the place quite badly...

But they could open some more to the public. RAF Cosford has a museum but I believe it's free.

I've got a plan:

Close the loop-holes that mean the filthy rich don't have to pay taxes, then actually tax people appropriately (don't tax them X% less because they're £500 short of the next pay-grade of £150,000 a year) and take child benefit away from the people who really don't need it, not those who do.

Military planes arent exactly on the same level as BA First class planes. Not to mention i wouldnt want a bunch of extremly drunk people near live firing areas and/or near large quantities of guns and explosives.

Not to mention the fact if anything did go wrong youd have all these civies cluttering up the base.

My personnal solution to the budget cuts:
Fuck off Cameron

I can also see a number of foreign nationals being very interested in seeing exactly how our military works.
i knew someone would raise this issue, they should have alot of paperwork to fill in but since the base is "closed" its no longer operational for official military purposes

I also believe the government should use this opportunity to get the rich to spend their money.

Placing bigger taxes on them only makes them aggressive. If we want to improve the economy we need to build around them.

A better idea is just to cut spending over most areas of government, its a hard measure to take and we will need to make sacrifices but we have been living beyond our means for the last few years and its time to get back down to Earth. After a certain point where you have enough to live on and have reasonable leisure activites money doesn't increase happiness anyway it's not all so bad :)
