i dont really get the appeal of MMORPGs, you have to pay a monthly subscription (for a decent one) and all you do is kill stuff so you can lvl up and kill bigger stuff. its pointless, i also dislike how someone with a high lvl can just kill someone of a lower lvl simply because theyve played for longer, i like games in which lvling up gives you better gear and more abilities but its unfair when you can just kill a low lvl. im my opinion a lower lvl should be able to kill a high lvl

thats just my opinion, can anyone give me your opinion and tell me why you like them. i guess its just one of those instances where you love it or hate it.

I don't really get them either.

But i don't appreciate a lot of popular things so that's nothing new. I really don't get the social aspect of it though. That just seems strange to me. For one, i don't play games to meet people, nor am i all that interested in playing with other people. I have enough real life friends i guess, so my game playing time is my chance to get away from people. That doesn't work if someone is there calling me a noob.

Yes, you have to pay a monthly fee. No, this is not expensive.

Taking myself as an average gamer I pay on average $40 a month on video games. Now, to play WoW (even though I play Guild Wars) I only have to pay $30 for two months.

$80 or $30?

I'll take one MMORPG to go please.

I haven't played an MMO for about three months (last one was wow) because it got boreing for me. If you asked me a year ago why I played MMOs then I may have been able to give you a better response.

RuneScape is 1) only about $5 a month. As I am talking about the pay to play version, comments about the community being made up of little kids or people with maturity of etc do not apply.
2)Has over 20 diverse skills, with no limits on how many you can have at one time
3)No classes, so one character can be a smith, a warrior, a mage, and a master cooker.
4)Skillcapes.
5)No unwanted PvP
6)Lower levels CAN kill high levels, rather easily. It depends on the skill of the players in question, not just the time spent grinding.
7)One of the most widely played MMORPGs in the world, although for some reason, one of the least discussed on forums like this.

It's fun if you play with friends, I guess that's why some people dislike them. Others may just not like the same old fantasy setting.

I dabbled in one once (a free one I'm not wasting money on that). I really don't get them either. There were some good times, but it got boring having to grind for days and days and days to get to the interesting areas, and those quickly got boring, so I had to grind for days and days and days again. That wouldn't have been so bad if the combat wasn't just "click on monster, watch it die" which gets boring after the first time. On a positive note, it did make me realize why people use those grinding services or whatever they're call'd to level up your character for you.

This... people meet people with common interests and enjoy playing a game like this co-operatively. I just hate booking 'appointments' with people to play games.
