So I think I've spent enough time with the game to write a little review.
Lets start our way out and work in.
Firstly, for those of you that don't know farcry2 has nothing to do with the first farcry at all, I believe it should've been a differant name all together, it uses a differant engine, Dunia, diffent Dev team and plot is totaly differant.
Now that we got that out of the way.
When you first start the game you'll be expecting Crysis like graphics to blow you away, I know I did.
Instead of jaw droping graphics you'll get some amazing physics,if you hide behind a bit of a wall, it will break if shot enough. Also if you try to find cover behind a thin sheet metal wall, good luck! The rounds will go right through, adding a sense of realism.
Burn down a hut with ammo in it, you'll see the bullets go flying in all directions.
Fire will spread depending on wind direction causing your enemies to become traped or you to die if you aren't paying attention.
Lastly for the exterior of the game I feel I have to let people know is the lighting.
Yes the lighting makes this game for me, you can see the bits and peices of light and shadow on your weapon and overall the lighting engine delivers the mood of the game which I beleive effectively immerses you to becoming part of the world.
Now lets talk gameplay.
For starters I played on the maximum difficulty to chalenge myself, and what I got from that was an experience I had never felt from an FPS every encounter has to be carfuly planed because there was always a chance you could die instantly from a sniper hiding in some bushes.
When you are wounded you see yourself, still in the first person, pull out the bullet or shrapnel with some pliers or a knife. This does an amazing job of reminding you that your character is human and can be killed easily.
There were only 3 parts I didn't enjoy
Firstly. The driving was annoying, not due to the handling but because you will encounter NPCs on the roads and they WILL try to kill you, and usaly succeed in my case, this makes you run through the bushes for 10 minutes instead of the 2 minute drive.
Secondly. The game doesn't autosave very often, so you just cleared a camp only be killed by some passing car, you'll have to do it again. But once you've learnt that lesson you'll remember to hit f5 every so often. (I died alot before remembering there was a quick save button)
Finaly. This was kind of an issues to me as far as realism goes. When you're holding the sniper there is no sway in the crosshairs to show that you're still breathing. Although making it easier to snipe from a distance.
Farcry 2 made me think beyond the typical run and gun style shooter and made me plan out how I would execute my attacks.
Farcry 2 is proberly one of the best shooters of the fall and is on my list of games you need to own.
PS: This is my first review so tell me what you think. Be constructive.
*edit: forget to mention I played the PC version
