Ok so I've been playing Shadow of Mordor and enjoying it a great deal, but I'm just not having the recurring villains fun that everyone else is. I keep seeing stories of Captains coming back from death over and over, and getting progressively worse condition, but having a fun dynamic nature. I'm just not seeing this. When I kill them, they stay dead.

What am I doing different?

The impression I got from other posts is even when you get the "Uruk Captain has been killed" message, with the slow motion kill shot, they will still come back? Over and over? I'm not getting this. Even when I don't decapitate them (a point one poster said is a certain death situation), they still stay dead.

I'd really like to have some more durable Uruk who are a persistent threat, but so far, they get chopped down by my blade faster than they can replace them.

I'm playing on the PC version if that means anything. Do I need to bump up the difficulty? Not even sure it has a difficulty scale. Do I need to not use Combat Finishers so much? Is this "returning from the grave" really just them running away and escaping and coming back?

Help me make my Uruk live longer!

Yeah, you need to not do the glowy blade execution kills. Normal attacks, arrow kills, throw them into fire, shoot an explosive etc just don't cut their heads off or something.

I mean, it is pretty hard to come back from your head being removed but if he used to be an Uruk but took an arrow to the eye, they come back etc.

It probably wont be instant 'cos they have quite the pool they can pull from but sooner or later you will get a repeat. I have and I spend most of my time ignoring missions and such to just attack captains and stuff.

Omega got it. Arrows, stealth kills, that mind break attack, standard attacks, caragors, and flurry attacks are how Uruks come back to life. If you sword execute, most likely gone. Or at least, no one I've done it to has returned. Be careful with Graugs as well, as their triangle/y/whatever on PC attack bites off their heads.

Ok so let me clarify a bit. I don't only kill them with combat executions, sorry for that. It doesn't matter how they die as far as I can tell. Caragor mauling, mind controlled Uruk minions smacking him down, stealth kills, ground takedowns, random sword smacks. I've killed them in all kinds of random and various ways, and they stay down. I haven't killed any via campfire burning or explosion, but it still doesn't seem to make any difference.

Are you talking about that just "Hold down B when near an Uruk to drain them from a distance" power? I hardly ever use that since there's almost always other Uruk around who will interrupt it with a smack to my head.

It's when you weaken an Uruk captain enough to grab him. It's the part where you can get Intel, then decide to either dismiss or kill them. I call it the mind break, I don't really know what it is called.

And I believe someone mentioned that Uruks are more likely to come back the fewer captains are left alive. I can't confirm or deny it though.

Well, I'm at the point where if I break their mind, they're my minion. So that's not really an effective way to kill them. xD

And I've personally killed all of the bottom row, and 3/4's of the 2nd tier and the Uruk still keep dying. I think I'm going to try a harder difficulty next playthrough, see if that helps.
