Once again: Only the hook of the joke was intended to have anything resembling a flavor of potential truth to it. If you thought I was trying to make the whole article plausible, you completely missed the point.

And as for "you're the fool if after noon", I have never in my life heard that rule.

I need to stop clicking on topics that sound too tragic to be true. :^P

I saw the "Adam Savage has been killed" bit, then I skimmed down and saw "Megaton" and "tick-tick-tickity means 'run your ass out of there'". Then I laughed.

Well played, sir. Well played.

Also, I just got over my obsession with Fallout 3. Thanks, this really helped. XD

Yeah me too. I was almost about to scream, "Adam! NOOOOOOOOO!"
Something stopped me, though...

Damn, I really thought that wasn't a Myth. Too bad, I guess I'll have to blow up my warehouse of atomic bombs now...

Oh. My. God. You had me going for a second and I was prepared to declare this the worst day ever. Doomsday AND a mythbuster dead? How would I survive?

How did I believe that for so long? I had to read the first comment to figure it out.
Same. This joke was just the side of cruel...at least to me and the rest of the feeble-minded.

Scared the hell outta me though.

Nobody took me up on the scavenger hunt challenge. That's a shame. Answer key:

1) ALAMEDA, CALIF.: Home of the Alameda Bomb Range, where they do most of their explosives tests.
2) (AFD): April Fool's Day.
3) "can you stand in the blast radius and be blown to safety" is a reference to the myth where Adam re-created the stunt from the movies where a car blows up and he jumps to safety.
4) The character "doing field work" is Moira Brown's stated reason why she wasn't in Megaton when it blew up.
5) The "plenty of Rad-X and Rad-Away" and Three Dog quotes are a direct reference to the "dangers of radiation" public service announcement on Galaxy News Radio. As well, Three Dog asserting "I'll keep everyone informed on the radio" is a reference to GNR.
6) Max "Three Dog" Gibson is a reference to Mad Max, on which Fallout is clearly modeled, and Mel Gibson, the star of those films.

I wasn't kidding about the prize. Had one of you bothered to make an effort I'd have gifted you any under-$10 Steam game or DLC or mod of your choice. Too bad! Next time I say "win a prize", pay attention!

I didn't want the whole thing to be plausible. I wanted the hook to make people say "you had me going for a second there!" then the rest to be an over-the-top parody of the source material. Judging from the comments, I think it worked.
Yep, it did. As soon as I read "atomic bomb" I knew it was a prank, but after that, all the various Fallout 3 references were great, especially the Three Dog part.

Well, holy hell, you scared the shit out of me.
If you didn't put those Capital Wasteland shenanigans and weren't so calm about this, I would've ran telling everyone about the tragedy.
