Is it just me, or is Nintendo getting really gimmicky these days? Then again, I suppose you could level that claim at Sony and Microsoft, too.

Nowadays?
They were always so gimmicky. Their gimmicks are what make them what they are now.
The NES was packaged with ROB which probably was more of a liability but it allowed their console to be accepted world wide and just look at it now. It is one of the best consoles.
Gamecube didn't come with any gimmick that is why it is quite forgettable. Quite less people would remember playing twilight princess on gamecube. Instead most people played it on Wii.
Look at the Wii now, it is the best selling home console in the market. Even though it is gimmicky, it is cheap... very cheap compared to the other two.
So basically Nintendo is just another word for gimmick.
Also, Virtual boy doesn't exist. LALALALALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU!

Nintendo and COD are both responsible for the retardation of the cognitive abilities of a particular niche of gamers, separate from the hardcore and casual. I'm of course referring to the tunnel-visioned fanboys/girls.

While their games DO produce a consistent amount of revenue considering the sheer lack of effort placed into them to keep them fresh and unique as opposed to stagnant and inbred, it is a pity to see these two powerhouses of gaming companies to only be in it for the money and not for the sake of gaming (ie safe>fun). Regardless, their business model is ingenious and cannot go without mention.

Oh, and please don't get gimmick confused with innovation.

so we got
crash 1,2 & 3
spyro 1,2 & 3
final fantasy 7,8 & 9
metal gear solid

and some of the N64 games didn't age very well either and beside i should bring up the PS2 if we are talking about good games
Let the battle begin.
I haven't played any of the crash or spyro games. Final Fantasy 7 and 8 haven't aged well(Time has made FF7 shit) and the only one left is FF9 which I haven't played so no comment from me.
Metal Gear Solid.... Not aged very well either. The controls feel a little clunky and the graphics don't do justice to snake the badass. Also, it got a remake on nintendo console so your argument is invalid.

Could you list some of the games that haven't aged well on the console(N64)?
I would love the list considering only quite a few games were released for it.

Also keep the PS2 out of the discussion. It would be like bringing the god between the fight of two children.
why must we keep the PS2 out of the discussion cann't you admit that the gamecube is the badest nintendo console

and beside there are more good games for the PS1 that i just can't think of right now and how about you name me ssome good 3rd party games for the 64?

I love the smile of the guy on the left it reads to me

"I am literally better than you in every single way, see? Benjamin agrees too."
