I got my brother to name his son Elias, after Walt Disney. So that's a win. Other names I like are Jasmine, Miranda, Tala, or Namira. I really don't like boys, so I really only have two good names for them, the previously mentioned Elias and Harun. I have dolls named Miranda and Tala already. Also Xania, but that isn't a real name.

Okay, now that I've made an Evangelion Joke... I'm not actually going to say.

What I will say is that my spouse and I worked out a similar system as established by the Ikaris - pick two names, one boy name and one girl name, and wait for the kid to be born.

Reading this I was like, "Ah, Zack is a pretty good name. I had a friend in college named Zack. Rufus...? Like Rufus Shinra? Okay. Vincent... wait a minute!" Actually they get less obvious after Edgar. I probably wound't have twigged to Leon were it not for Rufus, Vincent, and Edgar.

Also, I wouldn't recommend Aerith. It's just a Japanese mispronunciation of "Earth". Terra would work if you wanted something along those lines. Or... I've always liked Aeris.

This is usually a sore point for me 'cos I like normal modern names but people seem to hate there children and name them things that will get them tormented.

They let there tastes influence there choice of name, instead of considering how it will effect the kid.

"I like mass effect, so I'm calling my kids garrus"and now the kid has to cope with being named after an ugly alien in a game and now resents you.

Like Louis C. K said "There should be laws about what you can name your child" even some of the names I've read on this thread make feel sorry for these kid .

My philosophy is "if you like the name, you have it" don't inflict it on your kids, it's just cruel.

I, on the other hand, do not like Aeris. Mostly because I had my name for about five years before that game came out, but once it did everyone assumed I was a fangirl even though I'd never played it.

Is your name spelled like it is in your handle (Aris)? Because, if so, then that's an entirely different name. Which I suppose may be lost on people, but still.

You could also have been Eris, pronounced the same way, but meaning the greek goddess of disorder.

Anyway, my point was more than Aeris, Aris, and/or Eris are a very pretty sounding name rather than Aerith which is just someone failing to pronounce the word "Earth" really badly.

Funny enough, me and my girlfriend have already started picking out names for what we want our potential future children to be. We both want one child of each gender, but she desperately wants twins (though we will obviously take what we get). We are going to have at least one child of each gender, but if we end up having 2 of the same, then rather than risk it a 3rd time, we will adopt for the missing gender and legally have thier name changed (I am more picky about the name, not the bloodline. Though white would be prefered race just to fit in)

Thier names are (in order of Birth):

Male: Robert Edward M***** (After Robert Edward Lee), Thomas Jackson M****** (After Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson)

Female: May Annabelle M*****, Kola Abigal M*****

If I were to ever have a boy, I would name him Jahimba. It was a name of a kid who I went to middle school with, and I thought it was a cool name.

It's possible it has a cultural or national meaning, so it might not be the best idea X_X

I always wanted to name a girl Sapphire after a dead girl who was taken to my school for embalming. It is kind of creepy I know but I sort of want that little girl to be remembered even in a small way.

On the boys side,heck if I know maybe Lloyd or Luke...what I like the Tales of series and they are still pretty normal names.

As for my own birth name(Elijah) I have no attachment to it as I don't feel it suits me but I am attached to my given name(Elise)

I don't know why I always preferred the 'th' version although I do like Aeris but my friend has a lovely little girl called Aeris and she may beat me up if I call mine that too
The thing that would annoy me is the constant mispronunciation at her school. I'd hear a lot of "Aries" as in the star sign, or probably "Iris" which is my favourite song buy not a name I like.

Some of the boys names are from FFVII, but other things as well that I love. Vincent (Mighty Boosh, Vince for short) Rufus (Wainwright, I love his music). I loved the names before I played the games and none of them are too outlandish, old names are coming back in fashion now too. :3

Also, is 'Liara' actually a name? The only Liara I've ever heard of was blue and had the business end of an octopus stuck to her scalp. I guess it does rather pretty though.

Well... it's a good job you and I are not having kids because boys outnumber girls about 5:1 in my family so I'm most likely heading to boysville.

Lots of people have raised eyebrows at my boys names, Vincent gets a lot of funny looks but I like it. I want a name I'm gonna enjoy calling my kids rather than one everyone else tells me to use.
I'll probably be heading for Rufus although my mind will probably change at one point.

As for Liara, my friend has a little girl by that name who is 10 now, I think. She's never been a gamer so it's not from ME, but the name exploded in popularity when ME came out. I just think it's a pretty name.

A kid in my sons class is named Odin and his sister is named Astrild. They were very suprised when I actually knew what thier named mean. In California I don't run into many Nordic names.

Probably James or Jamie after James Randi, because the guys just legendary. Other than that don't really know, wouldn't want to name my kid something obscure, it's a good way to get them picked on.
Hell it's what my parent's did, it's hard to find something offensive that rhymes with 'Mark', unless you say it repeatedly then you just sound like a duck.

My first name is very common and I dislike it, David. I go by Dave but even that is too common for me. I find it ironic I have a christian themed name when I detest religion. I am adopted so my birth name was Russell which is worse than David in my opinion. They kept my middle name but changed my first and last name. We named our son Aiden and it seemed like as soon as he was born we ran into that name everywhere. It means little and fiery and he lives up to it. I wanted to name him Drake but all my wife's family was against it, they said it was too much like a porn name. If we ever have a girl her name will be either Eleana or Heleana depending on who wins between us.

I've never particularly liked my own name, it's Welsh which means anyone who has heard it before assumes I'm Welsh, while other people are completely unable to pronounce it when I introduce myself and no one ever asks me how to spell it so its been written down like 20 different ways. Until I was 7 or so I didn't even pronounce it right myself, because everyone at school pronounced it wrong!

I did go through a phase where I considered getting everyone to call me by a middle name (I was given two just in case I wanted to!) and I tried it out for a bit, but now I kinda feel I have to stick with it because it's me (I also suppose it's also having quite a unique name that's kinda cool), even if it means suffering the triple repetition when introducing people, or seeing it spelt wrong every time haha.
