Why cant you name your save files on alot of console games?
For example, fallout 3, I have multiple characters and I hate having to go into them to tell which one is which and I cant just read the name because it just says their location

What is your opinion on this? Should it be "required" for every game?

Definitely. I don't know how many people have bitched to me about their siblings deleting their save files because they weren't sure which files was who's.

Meh, I just sift through to find what I want, and I have no siblings so I don't have that problem either.

Forza 3 forces you to name every picture, setup, replay, movie, vinyl, design, etc. So does Halo for map and game variants. So I guess I don't know where you're coming from with this.

No. Only some games let you name your saves. Most of 'em end up with names like 02323300584943589.sav or something. Changing their names may make them unrecognizable to the game itself.

Well, I dont make maps/game variants on HALO and I dont play Forza so I dont really know how it is with them.

Yes, but if some games can do it, why not others? And im pretty sure Fallout 3 on PC can do it.

Well in a game that requires many saves like those 2 games, it makes sense. But if a game offers you to name a save/character and you name everything the same, and dont keep track of it in somehow, thats your own damn fault.

It all depends on what games support it, and will load any file in the format of their saves, regardless of name. Some files have special names.
Before you go off renaming your save files, I recommend you back them up first.

Well whose fault is that? If you want to tell your characters apart. You don't give them the same name.
He means all the saved games are from the same base game, he just saved new games at choice branches and played differently to see what would happen. So he didn't name the characters the same, they are the same character.

As for the OT, I think the reason they don't do it is it's a pain to type on a console, unlike a PC where you have a physical KB. For most player the extra naming step would be a inconvenience. I'd love to retroactively rename saves, which is a even rarer feature, since I have a habit of keeping saves from before cool things happen in games. I have like 30 MGS4 save files >_>

I don't have this problem seeing as none of my siblings play my games (my older brother only plays FIFA 10 and my older sister doesn't play games) but if I have the chance to name my save files I usually just call it tits or something.

Naming save files is stupidly easy to code, and really useful (memories of brother accidentally deleting my files -.-). So yes, it should be done more in games.

say wuuuuuuuut?

edit: oh, I see

OT: I usually don't have a problem. I don't usually have an issue where I have to save a crazy number of saves that it gets confusing which is which. Although for oblivion (which I broke that "not a lot of different saves" credo)for some reason it stopped "Continue"'ing from my most recent save after about 100 saves. Stupid thing.

Generally, in today's world, with Gamertags etc. saved games are relatively segregated.

Edit #2: HA. I just thought of something funny that's OT though... In fable 2, you can name your dog, or give a nickname to any character in the whole game, but you can't name your own character (I don't think at least), or name your saves.

That's pretty messed I think.

Lol, the fable thing seems really odd.
