I name my characters in an entirely arbitrary fashion which is why my import save for ME3 will be Riot Shepard (since she is my favourite Shepard) In Sims games I tend to use stupid names like the ones of NPCs. Either way, it is based on how I feel at the time, I never use my own name though.

If it's a male then my own name(Theodor) or a variation of it(in DA:O for example: Therod)
If it's a female anything that sounds sexy at that time(for me the simple names are the best): Cloe, Gwen, Anna, etc. But sometimes I just go for a common American name: John/Jack/Max.

I tend to go with a latin pair i like. Drusus or Cassius for males and for females ill just cut the second down and have Cass.

I'll usually just name it after myself or a variant of my name, or, if I'm pissed off about something, I'll call it something like C. Mongler or something similarly offensive.

I try to find my characters main characteristic or something else that is important in the game/for the character. I try to find one word for that, then I translate it into Latin and make a name out of it.
Like Umbrao (not very proud of this one), my gnome warlock. Umbra means shadow, as in "Between good and evil, there is shadow."

depends, i go with my PSN (see user name) my old arcade name (Rage), but only in fighting games wher eyou make your own character.

In RPGs i go with whatever fits, but my favs are Malaketh (was gutted that there is a similar name in the Warhammer and elderscrolls franchises), Snorri and Thornir (I got these from a viking name genorator for some oblivion saves when all I could think of for a name was Titty).

I also use my real name some times, I mean what name is more amazing than Joe

If it's a male, I'll go with something Russian. Like Sergei, Boris, Vladimir and so on. If it's a female, I'll go with whatever comes to mind.

I actually have real trouble with this. If a character sort of has a name already, I keep it. My character in Zelda is always Link, My character in Borderlands is always their original name. If I have to come up with one, I try to find a random name generator on the net. Best one I've gotten from those is "Utijirosu" for EVE Online (plus that character looked japanese, so it worked nicely)

Sir Digby Chicken Caesar, Jacosta Divillnerve or a variation there upon

I always call my rival on Pokemon games Titface. After 8 games through 12 years, you'd think it gets old. But it doesn't :)

Something Biblical usually... why not?

Right now Moses wanders the Capital Wasteland and Jesus is jumping from Mass Relay to Mass Relay.

Usually always Kermi, regardless of how little sense it makes in game. Kermi Shepard for instance.

The only game I've played as a female you can actually name was Mass Effect. I think my female renegade was called Kip.

If there's no default name, I go with Jethro. Regardless of Gender.
That is hands down the funniest thing I've heard today.

I'll usually just look around my room and the first DVD boxset I see, I'll name the character after someone from that tv show.

I used Zedd for ages so I go with things like this:

Males: Zedd, Zeddicus (where I took it from originally) Zeddix Zed
Females: Zeddica, Zeddin, Alezeddi
