Naming your PC

My pc is called Dino. Because it's old. My boyfriend's is the DeLorian.

I haven't named my laptop yet... any suggestions?

NO I'm not hearing things, I cracked portals game files, extracted the dialog, then changed all Windows' default sounds.
You know those annoying task bar pop-ups, well its hard to be mad when they say "excuse me" in a cute childlike voice.

Old PC: burn (and I am Crash. Crash & Burn. Hackers. Go go quality film making. Yes, I know.)
New PC: burn-mk2 (same. also, burn mark. Just 'cause)
Wii: Eunice
DS: Daphne
old mp3 player: Julian (all of those, Greek names. Just 'cause.)
new mp3 player: Lucius (it means light! Ironic. it is black.)
eReader: Clarissa
PSP: Edward
Phone: Roger (It's on the Rogers network... original, I know.)
Netbook: javier

Mmmh. I think that's it. Yeah. Overkill. Ah well.

If I had to name mine I'd call it "Karl Marx" For redistributing all the computerized wealth to ME.

My parents computer is HAL, as is the IBM server box that I helped to install

those are all the computers I can remember, but there might be a Barbossa that I'm forgetting.

Usually when I give my PC a name...it's not a very nice one. I do introduce it as Frankenstein's Computer though.

I name a lot of things. My computer is Todd and my monitor is Chris, those are for no apparent reason. My laptop is Armstrong because it's a livestrong and has a copy of lance armstrong's sig. on it.

My PC doesn't have a name because it doesn't deserve one, but I guess if I was going to name it, "Shitface" would be a strong possibility (I have a shitty PC, in case you couldn't sense the hostility). I did name my school MacBook "Wheatley," though.

My current computer is named "Monolith" because it runs in an enormous black box. The previous one was named "Calvinball".

I don't know. I recently fell in love with mine. I didn't think much of it...then I started calling it Zeratul when my girlfriend would give me funny looks when I would bring it on trips. She knows who Zeratul is, so she gave me double the strange looks.

I imagine my laptop to be my bestest friend in the whole wide world!
My home computer is Anne Shirley because it has a firey temper an is makes a lotta noise (and my brother made windows in a red theme)
My work computer used to be Jill Saleryman

It is my homage to an excellent movie, and my favourite characters of all time (animated).

I'd say about one in every 144 users who look in this topic actually get that reference (unless Serial Experiments Lain is far more popular than I thought).

i need to learn to do that

1. get a program called GCFScrape
2. use it to open "Steam\SteamApps\portal english.gcf"
3. In GCFScrape navigate to "Root\portal\sound\npc\"
4. Right click the folder "turret_floor" and left click extract.
5. Exit GCFScrape and go to where you extracted it, all the sounds will be their.
6. the sounds all have nondescript names so it pays to listen to each one and rename it so you know which is which.
7. Next go to the "control Panel" and open "Sounds and Devices" (make sure its in classic view if using vista or win 7) and go to the "Sounds" tab.
8. Select an event to assign a sound to, left click "browse...", open the sound file you want to attach, then click the little arrow to make sure you picked the right one.
9. Repeat the step 8 until you have assigned all the sounds you want. (you don't need to put a sound to every event.
10. Click "Apply"

and your done
