If by any regard this counts as advertising, please feel free to remove this thread. Do not mind the typos I have made, it's been a very long day. Have fun!
Hey Escapists and upcoming Novelists,

Now quite a few of you will wonder why I would include novelists, or even wonder what this strange thread title means! Well, here is why:

NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30. Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Now my questions to you; Are you participating? If so, what are you maddest ideas that you plan on putting on paper? Do you think you'll miss the deadline? Did you perfect your own plan de campagne ready throughout the year just to survive the harshness of this month?

So far I have written about 2500words today. I'm taking a little break here on the Escapist to let my mind rest. i'll continue tomorrow morning. So far my character has witnessed the creation of a new species of human beings, meteorimpact which results in catastophies across the "half-globe" as I named it. It's a planet missing a chunk of surface!

So basically, you just write until you run out of paper? Sounds like how I write my english essays...

I'm taking part, so far I've gotten about the same amount of words as the OP.
With my novel, so far I have the main antagonists established, I'll stick my story so far into a spoiler box
Well so far one of the villians has had a Robotic ninja built, next I had Two of my main protagionists fend off a couple of ninjas, and then spend the next 500 words telling off the villians plans slightly.

Is there some kind of reward for participation? Is it a contest? And can members of the UK submit their entries too?

I'd like to have a go, but uni may make it difficult.

I am totally starting this. Looks like some great fun.
It certainly is! Just let your mind roll and write it down! As crazy as crazy can be - that's how a friend of mine describes his story.

Isn't participating among many tens of thousands of other enthousiasts not enough of a reward? All people around the world can enter the contest, as far as I know there is no country that cannot.
Yes, It will take some time from Uni as well. I would not recommend participating if your uni-work might suffer because of this.

I'll try and do it, but I doubt I'll be able to write anything near that length due to school. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though :)
You're more than welcome.

For those of you, who believe they do not have sufficient time; it does not have to be a high-end work. Just write what comes to mind and try to enjoy this! :)

Sorry to dredge up a month old thread, well most of a month, but I didn't want to make a new one while this was still in the search bar.

I'm awesome like that.

But I needed to brag about this somewhere, and this seemed as good a place as any.

I finished my NaNoWriMo today. The novel itself isn't done (it's a big one - the second in an ongoing series I've been writing for a while) but I reached the 50,000 word marker today. I lost a fair bit of quantity I think, any my brain feels like it's swimming in used pickle juice, but I made it.

This is the first time I've attempted Nano, although I've wanted to for years. Anybody else done or nearly done?
