I love RPGs which have a great story, I loved all the Ultima games, loved Baldur's Gate and absolutely loved Mass Effect and Dragon Age and I'm wondering are there any other good games around I haven't played

Suppose I should give a list of all the RPGs I already have first

Ultima all of them
Baldurs Gate 1+2
Icewind Dale
KOTOR 1+2
Mass Effect 1, 2 + 3
Witcher 1 and will be getting 2 soon
Dragon age 1+2
Skyrim, Oblivian and Morowind
Neverwinter's Night 1 + 2

If you don't mind JRPGs you gotta try Persona 3 and 4 dude. Both games have an incredible story and characters. I can't recommend those games enough.
Also, looks like you love Bioware games so you should try Jade Empire. Very unique in terms of both gameplay and setting RPG.

well i see a lack of neverwinter nights on there...the 2nd one has one of the best expansions ever written (and the main game isn't half bad to boot! plus they just released a mod that puts the entire first baldurs gate and expansions into the neverwinter nights engine!)

as mentioned, jade empire is also a goodie

Need to add Planescape Torment to that list. If you have SNES handy, I would also recommend Shadowrun. Arcanum is another good one make sure you actually role play in it or you'll end up with a mile long quest list of failed quests. I'll also echo Jade Empire.

Yes I just remembered I forgot to put NWN on the list (will rectify), reason I forgot that one is that for some reason I haven't been able to get it to work on windows 7

Cheers will go down to my used game dude to see if he has Jade Empire latter today

Yes I love bioware games, the stories they write are so deep (sad about KOTOR 2, brillant game play, shitty story)

Never played planescape will have to try to find it. No SNES but it might be on the Wii store maybe. I actually didn't like Arcanum because everyone ended up immune to everything and I didn't find the story very engaging (ended up getting lost with no idea where to go to find the dwarves)

I don't see any Fallout and am hoping that's just an oversight, especially with your mention of the Elder Scrolls.

Also Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines might be right up your alley as well.

If you act quick, GOG is having some big sale where you can get pretty much everything they sell for at least 50% off, which includes Witcher 2 (was 70% a couple days ago) and Planescape.

ah i see, that sucks, mine worked perfectly on my windows 7, did you troubleshoot it or just have a "fuck it" when it didn't work?

also as mentioned by someone else, gog.com is having a pretty big sale, you might not get the BEST price as some daily deals were but most games are going for 2-5 bucks right now which is a steal regardless

Bloodlines was a great game, must buy it again because the disc copy I had stopped working. Actually haven't played fallout, whats it like?

Oh yeah, check out The Temple of Elemental Evil too. Same vein as BG & Icewind. GoG.com has it and Planescape I am pretty sure.

I personally loved Arcanum's story but it could be that I played it in 2000. That game blew me away. Speaking of Troika though, have you played Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines yet? That's another good one. Don't play a Malkavian on your first playthrough for replay value purposes.

Out of left field: you should check out Costume Quest this October. It's not serious in its narrative but is a wonderful throwback to childhood.

Gothic 1&2 (you can probably skip the third one)

Arcanum

Temple of Elemental Evil

Dark Souls (make sure you get a gamepad if you plan to play it on PC)

These are a few RPG's that popped into my mind except the list that you posted.

yea played Bloodlines, Loved that game when I could keep it working (had an annoying habit of breaking half way through in the cave quest), and when I finally DID get it working the Kuei-Jin ending was broken and I couldnt get the Camarilla ending to work either

personally I played as the Toreador and the Tremere and I think I rage quit after the 6th time trying to get the Tremere base to work

Wish they had made more in that series actually, did see that there was another one but it didn't look like it was even close to Bloodlines

Fallout (at least from my experience, only played 3 and New Vegas) plays very much like the Elder Scrolls - unsurprising, as it's from the same studio - except instead of a medieval fantasy world, you're in the post-apocalyptic ruins of a world where the Cold War ended with a bang. The outside world is called a wasteland for a reason - they do a good job of making it feel really lonely, with isolated groups just beginning to properly reach out to each other. The combat is something I haven't seen much of elsewhere - you can use guns like a shooter, or melee weapons like the Elder Scrolls, or you can pause and issue combat commands like KotOR - it's not the most challenging combat, but that's because the emphasis is really on the environment and the storytelling. You really should check them out.

And having played all the BioWare stuff as you have, Jade Empire should entertain you, see what it's like when BioWare experiments (gameplay's a bit weird, but the story has some seriously INTERESTING things that it pulls, you'll likely enjoy it).

The Witcher II you will also enjoy. I'm sure you're familiar with the multiple act structure that videogames can take - Mass Effect 3, for example. The Witcher II is good for a lot of reasons, but one thing which just bowls me over is that the second act is pretty much ENTIRELY DIFFERENT depending on how you conclude the first act. You will meet entirely different characters, go different places, have different choices, and you won't get the full story of what went down in the game until you go back and do it the other way. That really blew my mind.

Also perhaps worth checking out is Alpha Protocol. People have very mixed opinions on this game, but I enjoyed it - as is the case with most of Obsidian Entertainment's products, it's flawed, but if you can look past those flaws, it does some really awesome stuff, usually in the storytelling and plot department. It's essentially a Spy RPG. The gameplay is not particularly good - if you play it like I did, you'll just sneak around knocking people out/picking them off with your silenced pistol. Where it shines is in the dialogue system - it's got a timed dialogue wheel, much like the Walking Dead - you can mess with it if you need to (and sometimes you will - you have to make very tricky decisions under pressure, such as whether to execute someone or not, or whether someone is reaching for their gun or just making an innocent gesture) And unlike with ME or DA, sometimes you can screw up/succeed with your dialogue choices, allowing you to sometimes bypass fights, or trigger them, or whatever. And the story can be run, and end, in so many different ways - some of which are really quite surprising (my ending threw some awesome twists my way, that's for sure). You might like it, you might not, but I'd advise checking it out.

Joining in with those. Especially Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol are brilliant games that were hated for the massive amount of bugs at the launch, which thankfully have been sorted out by now.

Apart from that, I played just yesterday Planescape Torment and I gotta say it had one of the best game endings I've seen. Lovely game with thousands dialogue-centric quests.

Thank you. Alpha Protocol has won a place in my heart. I'd call it an underrated smash, but not enough people seem to have tried the game. I expected a Metal Gear or Syphon Filter wannabe game instead I get a decent action game that has rather unique system; what you do and say matters. You can start a fight, decide to execute the enemy boss or let him live, bluff your way into the enemy stronghold (I think I managed a trophy with that one) You can make friends and you will make enemies. I brought it cheap and got more than my money's worth.

I'd also recommend the Fallout games... and since you've got the Ultima games and Infinity engine RPGs on there (minus Icewind Dale 2? I enjoyed that one...) I'd even recommend Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics. They're isometric and tactical, but not so old that they rely entirely on text (so they're actually quite a bit more user friendly than fare like Ultima: Exodus or Quest of the Avatar...which are the two entries in that series I played as a kid).

Also, if you get Fallout 3 or New Vegas (or both), get them on PC. They're a lot more stable on PC thanks to the save-state system the gamebryo engine uses. Also mods. Wanderer's Edition [http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/2761/?] gives Fallout 3 some much needed challenge and verisimilitude... New Vegas doesn't need as much help in that regard, though Project Nevada [http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/40040/?] can rebalance it to never before seen levels of harshness with tweaking. J.E. Sawyer's final release mod [http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=60505] for it strikes a nice balance between the insane complexity of P.N. and the mild handholding of the vanilla game.
Also, DarNified UI for Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas make all three games much easier to manage, inventory/menu wise.

I'd Reccomend Odin Sphere. It's a gorgeous game and it's available for digital download on the ps3 last time I checked. It's a beautifully hand drawn 2D side scrolling action rpg with a focus on defeating waves of enemies arcade style.

The story is told from the perspective of five heroes as they're thrown into the events surrounding the end of the world. Ancient prophecies are coming true, kingdoms are crumbling, war has left a lot of the land barren, and everyone is getting pulled along in it without them even knowing.

It's told kind of non-linear, first you'll play one hero and see events from their point of view. Then you'll unlock the next hero, see their point of view, and where their story intersects with the first hero and so on and so forth until you've completed all the stories and the world begins to end. At which point you get a series of mega huge bosses who have to be defeated by a specific hero in order to avert complete and utter ruin.

Basically it's really complex really pretty to look at and the combat is really fun I'd definitely give it a look.
