Today sees the release of the continuation of the Naruto manga with Naruto Gaiden The Seventh Hokage.

I don't know what to think about it so far. On one hand, we may finally get some answers to questions that were never answered (such as what the hell happened to Yamato), and I love the idea of the series, but on the other pretty much all the kids are clones of their parents, the way they handled the ending doesn't leave me very hopeful, and 'hur dur, typical woman overreacting'.

At least it gives us a plot that's new and interesting instead of drawn-out and boring. At the end of Naruto, nobody at all genuinely felt that the pacing was well-handled, and a poll I made here at The Escapist revealed that 96% of readers didn't even like the series anymore.

I have finished it just because it was one of the first mangas I've read...

It has been years since, I'e read other mangas, and Naruto has proven itself to be nothing different from other kazillion shonens.

It is time for it to drop it forever for me, I think.

Fun fact: I was talking with my brother about that character's fate because we just watched the episode in English where he gets captured. He didn't believe me that they left his story unresolved, so we looked it up on the wiki. According to the wiki, that's not Yamato that we saw just vanish, but the remains of Tobi. Yamato went to go confront him and then saw that. Also, he is apparently present at Naruto and Hinata's wedding the The Last movie. So...I think it's just another example of how the ending of the series was poorly paced and not very well thought out.

I think I'll check this out just because I stuck with Naruto for years. Perhaps thing will be different and we'll get interesting stories, but I'm not holding my breath. I saw a preview for a movie starting Naruto's son, and you're exactly right: He is just a clone of Naruto. Same hair, same eyes, same attitude, and same complaints. It's literally Naruto 2.0. Why can't it be about his daughter?

Look at the bright side. It focuses more on Sasuke's daughter than on Naruto's son.

This really strikes me as the sort of situation where you could possibly hear this: "Quick we've run out of story, we've got to milk the cash cow harder!"

I got bored with the series during the early episodes of shippuden, it just kept going and going and going. At least the saga is at an end unlike One Piece which unlike Naruto I can hardly bring myself to even Wiki.

I liked the ending anyhow, the movie was alright and the Epilogue confirmed all my waifu-shipping so that was always a bonus.

Hope is restored!...Sort of. If she's anything like Sasuke--and judging by the brief appearance of her, she very well might be--then I'd sooner have it be about Naruto's son. But, I'll check it out. I'm hoping they manage to throw in some left over plot points. Orochimaru, the rest of Sasuke's team, and stuff like that.

Well of course they're all the same...don't you know the entire message of all the series is "OMG! EVERYONE IS EXACTLY LIKE NARUTO!!!" Especially in the filler episodes. :p

I thought the first chapter was pretty good. I like the nature of the conflict that it introduces, in that Sarada has peers that don't entirely appreciate their fathers, whereas she has no relationship with hers at all. And the shocker at the end treads into territory that a lot of people suspected was the case, but that I thought Kishimoto wouldn't touch with a ten-foot long pole.

In any case, assuming no hideously overpowered villains rear their ugly heads (Madara was a good character, but I still have nightmares about Kaguya), and that the conflict remains more subtle, I actually have high hopes for this series.

On one hand I think the beginning of Naruto was one of the best shonen I've ever read. It wasn't until the end where Kishimoto got tangled with his loose plotlines that he had no idea what to do with and lost the focus of the plot. So I think fresh start might very well give us a decent story, if we're lucky.

But then again, based on the first chapter...

The last chapter of Naruto really left a bad taste in my mouth, and it seems we have to deal with the aftermath of that quite a lot.

I just hate what happened with Sasuke and Sakura. I hate it. I think Sasuke is one of the most foul "heroes" I've ever seen in manga and if this manga tries to keep presenting him as a honorable father and husband I don't think I can take it. And Sakura, what they did to Sakura, making her a homemom was just insulting. It doesn't even make any sense, she could save so many lives working in a hospital or something!

Then again it looks like Kishimoto is about to do something interesting with Sasuke and Sakura's relationship, but we'll see about that.

Btw, don't Japanese people like taking a break or something. If the what I've heard about the ridiculous workpace of mangakas is true, you'd think Kishimoto would want to take like a year's holiday before starting a new series. He should be able to do that, being one of the most popular mangakas in the world.

It depends on weather or not Kishimoto works from home, as many mangaka do. Besides that Mangaka rarely get paid what their work is worth, they often have to keep working to keep their quality of life up, or sometimes just to kept housed, clothed, and fed.

Ah yes so the milking begins as DBZ before it Naruto will be sucked bone dry to make that paper.

I don't what to expect from this not much and that last chapter was pure troll foolery and made me realize that Choji and Karui was the best pairing I did not know I wanted.

It has potential... But I'm sticking to the side of pessimism as the current market likes to cater to the Otaku culture in both the west and east Asia. That generally does bad things to quality. Often shonen manga that are planned for short runs get drawn out way to long, and adapted into even longer anime. As it stands I've given up on Naruto as a franchise.

Yeah I mean that even happened to DBZ Toriyama wanted to end that at Cell with Gohan as the hero but Jump was like "silly Toriyama Goku makes us money".
I don't buy the whole Otaku culture scare this is just prime example of popular thing gets milks past experation date which is as old as time and extends beyond east and west ideals.

I might give it a read but I have no high or low expectations for it.
