Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution: Worth Buying?

I must say that I am a sucker for these games, as I am for the DBZ games that preceded it.

Sure, the english voice acting varies between marginally competatnt and excruciating and the cutscene/gameplay ratio is ridiculous but it is gratifying to play through the story of a manga/anime that I really enjoy, the fighting mechanics are fun and the boss battles are a visual joy.

That said, I am still sad that we haven't seen a 'complete' Ninja Storm game - you know, an A-Z of at least Shippuden (if not the whole continuity) at least on PC. No, I'm not going to rebuy a PS3 just to play Generations.

I have recently been playing through UNS3 again on my PC and loving it - but I'm still undecided about whether to pick up the next installment. The tournament sounds a bit story light, the mecha-Naruto thing sounds silly and the Akatsuki stuff...okay, that sounds pretty awesome.

Still, I have *nothing* to play at the moment really.

So - anyone played this yet? Is it any good?

I also haven't played it but I'm curious at to whether the PC port is good. Apparently the last one on steam had an awful PC version so I didn't get it, but if this one is decent I might have to check it out some time.

Well judging from my standpoint, i bought it on release as i am a fan of fighters such as Naruto, Dissidia etc.

It's utterly fantastic, but if your looking for a game where it shows the actual story, go with Storm 3, Revolution has this weird "Ninja World Tournament" thing i'm not really a fan of.

That said the sheer amount of characters and customization is utterly amazing, and the PC version got much more attention given to it this time around.

I have heard the online servers are also so much better this time around too but i haven't tried online yet.

All in all, a good buy yes, but the price may not be worth it if you just want to play VS mode all the time.

Weird. I had the PC port of 3 and had zero issues with it. Well...a few bugs here and there and one slightly weird music track.

Thanks. Will get it.

As I said I played 3 and loved it to bits. I just wanted 2 and 3 combined with possibly some more of the manga story updated. Sigh...I may just have to buy a Ps3.

Not bugs necessarily, apparenty it just needed a really, absurdly good PC to run well and some of the online was a bit borked.
Again, I didn't actually play it so I could be wrong.

In semblance to this, i have spent my day playing the game online and i rescind my old advice, Don't purchase it, it's online is as bad if not worse than Storm 3, and not worth the money on PC, get it on a console where you can actually play online comfortably.

An update. Got it. Regret getting it.

I never realized that anime games could have anime style filler :).

"Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution"?

I'm sorry, but any game title that sounds like a 12-year-old blubbering out as many cool phrases as he can in one sentence is just off-putting to me.

Silly titles tend to be the norm for anime based fighting games :D. Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Raging Blast was...well, a total blast.

Yeah I'd hold out for "Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution Omega Retribution Downfall Warfare Slap-My-Ass-and-Call-Me-Sally Hell Strike"... I hear it's gonna be the shiz.

I have a friend who is really into those games, I honestly have no idea why, maybe it's because I'm not into the show. He owns every one of them, which are essentially just an updated roster and a new story mode to fit what is going on in the show. The problem is that the mechanics are way too simple and haven't gotten any different.

The new game tries to do some new stuff, like now you can "Super Cancel" a regular combo into your characters Ultimate Jutsu at the cost of reduced damage, you can now perform a counter move by pressing X (or square on PS3) while blocking. Certain combinations of support characters will perform special "team attacks" that look pretty cool.

Perhaps the biggest change is that all characters now have 3 different modes on top of selecting what outfit/jutsus you want. Ultimate Jutsu Mode simply gives you access to your Ultimate Jutsu, otherwise you just don't get it. Awakening mode allows you to enter a weaker awakening state by flicking the right stick, just like how Rock Lee and Sakura could in the previous games, this also means that without this mode, you can't go into "super awakening" which happens when you overcharge your chakra after filling a gauge by attacking/getting attacked. The last mode is Drive Type, I honestly have no idea what it does, my friend said it does something with support characters, but we don't play with those when he brings it over.

These may seem like good changes, but all it does is limit the amount of content you can have at once, it removed the things that made Sakura and Rock Lee special, since now anyone can go into awakening at any time with Awakening Type, but then you can't do your ultimate Justsu, and whatever drive type does. It makes you have to play 3 times as much in order to see all the content. If every character had all the benefits at once, or if they were separated on a character by character basis, there would be gameplay variety in what character you picked, but now any notion of that is gone. The characters are simply skins now, there is nothing unique about any of them from a gameplay perspective, they all do the same exact thing.
