Necrons or Tryanids?

This have been driving me CRAZY!
I'm starting up my 40K table top experince with the Assult on Black Reach starter set to get the feel of the game.
Once I become used to the game I wan't to either start a Necron army of Tyranid swarm. So please help me choose a race!
I've hear the Necrons have an outdated codex and are boring to play as but from other people i've heard they're fraking amazing.
On the other hand, the Tryanids look great and I like the swarm tatics but they seem a little pricy.

PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE!!

all warhammer is pricy. pick a race you will enjoy painting and collecting. Personally tyranids are just far more awesome.

I don't know much about 40k but zombie robots sounds pretty awesome.

Zombie robots are cool, but they tend to crash like Windows 2000 when they reach low numbers

Tyranids for me, lots of tiny things and lots of HUGE things

Heh. I remember having similar problems back when I used to play.

If you can afford them, go for the 'Nids. Remember that you don't have to start out with a giant swarm of gaunts, I've found that the most balanced Nid armies tend to have a few heavy units soaking up the points. Just don't go overboard on upgrades for one unit and remember to get some Zoanthropes to help keep the grunts in line.

However, the Necrons kinda have that thing where they can get up, and it helps if you get a Lord with a Ressurection Orb so they can re-roll. Just remember that there is a fair chance that you will be outnumbered. Just don't forget to take destroyers/heavy destroyers for long-rage support and maybe a monolith to scare them a bit.

It really depends on what you prefer, and what type of play style you use, Necrons are powerful (kinda), and Tyranids win through numbers. All in all, tactics are what win games.

If you had to choose between those two, I enjoyed playing the Tyranid moreso than Necrons. I have tried almost every race.

Tyranids are almost 100% melee troops, they have a few guns, but do most of their damage in hand-to-hand. If you like to play up-close-and-personal then I suggest going with the Tyranids.

'Nids are a lot of fun to paint, but I find them a lot harder to play as. The new Codex removed the only thing that made the swarming units useful anyway.

The thing about Necrons is that you have a lot less choice or variety with your army, but they're very strong and with some lucky dice rolls, your army is, quite literally, unstoppable.

Honestly, it's just about preference with the way you'd rather play: Lots and lots of weak units or a few small squads of really strong units?

Keep in mind that I haven't played the game yet, so this is mostly info from a friend who is a total addict: Tyranids

Both armies can be effective, but Necrons are remarkably dull to play apparently. Most of their skills are passive, so your entire gameplay experience comes down to "I move, I attack - rinse and repeat till nice and pulpy".

From what I understand, yes, a pure "horde" type army with nids will set you back a bit, but Warhammer is never cheap, and you can build a more balanced army while you raise funds. Nid hordes can be very difficult to play against, because their sheer numbers can be downright overwhelming. It becomes a painfully punishing army where any mistake your enemy makes can cost him the whole game.

Again, I haven't played yet, but from those two, I'd go Tyranids.

Pick Tau, for being the awesome master race of ants with toasters on their heads.

But if you really have the Necron vs Tyranids debate, then you have to consider those things:

Price - Yeah, the Tyranids as a swarm army will be more expensive than Necrons who rely on strength rather than numbers.

Power - Latest Tyranids codex is just nasty. Necrons were once powerful, but now they are outdated. Somehow in GW world, everything with latest codex becomes top tier (which also explains, why those goddamn Space Marines are always so good all the time ~^). So yeah Tyranids are more powerful IMO.

Painting - You need far less colors for Necrons than for Tyrs. More over, painting a basic Necron troops is piss easy, so you can have a nicely painted army in a few days, and beautifully painted army in weeks. If you'll pick Tyrs, you'll just HATE painting yet another gaunt.

Race flavor - I don't like any of them (as you can see from my opening sentence, Tau is my favorite race), but I prefer Necrons over Tyranids, mostly because I hate bug-carnivore type abominations. They are just ugly to me, and not 'ugly but cool way'. Just so freaking ugly, I won't ever think about playing them.

It seems every new post makes me change what race I wan't to play as -_-

Oh and on a side note, a Hive Tyrant costs 50 bucks!?!? Sure it looks great and has alot of variety but a Necron lord with Ressurection Orb costs $15 and he seems a lot more usefull than a Tyrant.

In my group of friends... one plays Tyranids.... another play Necrons.

In the right game type, territory control, both are AMAZING.
But... in a kill points game, Tyranids can be totally shut down or outright farmed.
Necrons are just super durable, but once you lose a certain amount you're screwed.

On the bright side... Necrons are easy as pie to paint... buy some boltgun metal and go to town... a little green for the eyes and done....


But seriously... go with THE ANGRY MARINES!!

Of the two presented, I'd go with Tyrannids. I can't claim to be the biggest fan of Warhammer 40K but I can say that I like the tyrannids because they look bloody awesome.

Go with Tyranids, I am an Ork!!! and hand to hand combat is usefull. I have one friend with Necrons and one with tyranids and I got to say that the tyranids are waaaaaay more impressive.

I haven't actually played the tabletop game, being a DoW fan. But I love Necrons.

There's something so appealing about their emptiness.
