A friend of mine got Stalker: Shadow Of Chernobyl the other day and it was working fine. But today, every time he tries to run it, it gives him an error saying "cannot open file fsgame.ltx". Google wasn't very helpful, so I was hoping maybe The Escapist could shed some light on how to fix this problem. Restarting the computer does nothing, and reinstalling the game doesn't help either.

Explore the disk to find the file and copy/paste it over the old one. If it doesn't work, check if it isn't protected (as in OVERPROTECTED) by a DRM. It's a pain but my friend has to open his SWAT 4 game at least five time before the game he bought decide to start.

If it a DRM problem, i can't help you. I'm a console gamer after all.

That helped, the error's gone, but now hes just getting a black screen when it launches.

Black screen? You mean it doesn't load (as in, you can leave the game open for a week and the black screen will still be there) or the screen turn black. Because, and i'm not a expert, that it may due to the game loading. If it doesn't load no matter the time passed, that would probably be a DRM problem. Seem to recall SWAT 4 doing that at one point. My friend cleared that up by completely uninstalling the game, launching CCleaner to erase everything (watch your save files) and then reinstalling everything.

DRM is the anti-piracy program made for some game. SWAT 4 was infamous for that problem... and maybe so was Stalker.
