Ok, so here's the deal.

I've recently rediscovered my Morrowind disc and I've decided to give it another try.

This is mostly due to the fact that I hate Oblivion but I remember enjoying Morrowind when it came out. However, I never managed to finish the game due to my schedule back then and my computer going the way of the dodo.

I've been modding it heavily before starting to play (with this guide http://knotstheinane.blogspot.com/p/morrowind-modding-guide.html) but I do have a question:

Wasn't there a patch or something that removed the disc check from Morrowind? I do know that Bethesda's first patched removed the DRM (Securom, I think) but the disc is still necessary. I'm playing on my laptop and I don't want to carry the disc everywhere I go :p

On the other hand, if the DRM isn't there anymore, wouldn't a disc image theoretically work?

Thanks for the help :)

Oh, one last thing: I'm planning on buying Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Do you guys think they're worth it?

As far as I know there isn't a patch to remove the disk check.
As for the expansions, Tribunal isn't very good, but Bloodmoon is great.

I did not hear anything about such a patch either, but yes I would reccomend the expansions, Tribunal was not as good as bloodmoon but IMO you can never have enough Morrowind.

Hmm... Guess I'll have to carry my disc around.

A NO-CD crack wouldn't work here, because one of the mods in the guide actually patchs the morrowind.exe file.

Oh well :(

Thanks for the help anyway, guys :)

Definitely get the two expansion packs, many user made mods have them as a requirement, so if you want to download the best quest or house mods etc, you need the expansions. Plus they are super cheap now.

As for playing without a disc you could always download an 'Unofficial' patch to fix playing it without a disc. Of course that is at your discretion to do so, seeing as you have purchased the game.

If you don't want to do THAT then get the game on Steam :p You might even be able to pick it up in these current sales, plus is comes with both expansions and all patches.

Taking the journey to the island of Solstheim is one of the best trips you will ever make in the game.
Tribunal is less so, but they have stores with high gold caps and expensive tastes, so it isn't a total waste.
As for disk check, you can buy Morrowind on Steam and that removed the disk issue. I did that mostly because my disk took "normal wear and tear" and ground it down into a fine powder from over-use.
Then I snorted the powder and became Morrowind for a week, you might want to do the same.

I haven't played the expansions, but as for the CD issue: why not download a crack for it? I'm not completely up to speed on the laws where you live, but seems extremely strange to me if that was illegal. Nevertheless, if it is then I wouldn't want to be seen endorsing it on these forums, so in that case I take back what I said.

The crack won't work correctly, as I said. One of the mods I downloaded patches the .exe file and requires the original to be used.

I think I'm going to try to use a image, though :p I mean, if there's no DRM and it only checks for the CD, it'll probably work.

If not, maybe I'll just get the Steam version. Or maybe I'll carry the cd around. It'll remind me a bit of the old days :p
