A quick look on Ebuyer and we have:

http://www.ebuyer.com/search?store=2&cat=215&subcat=3177

There's a list of GTX cards, Ebuyer is usually a good indicator of common retail prices though you'll no doubt find something cheaper if you shop around.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/231359 That one's got a good performance/price ratio if you're still open to ATI of course :p

As for the extra money for the extra memory, depends on your justifiable budget, more video memory is always a plus :p

Erm.... the HD 5770 is a VERY VERY good card if you can get past your bias. You would be getting a GTS 250 with that budget and both the 5770 and 1gb 4870 outperform it by a freakig mile. Hell the old old 512 4870 will knock that card arround pretty roundly.

The 5770 is a stable, well made and well priced and importantly DX 11 card that is low power considering it's performace. Why pay the same price for a card that is a whole DX version behind it and performs MUCH worse?
It's not bias. They just don't like me :(

and i'm not too bothered about dx11 or 10 for that matter as almost all games used dx9 still.

(Though I will check that card out)
Well it's a card wich you can get the sublime MSI aftermarket cooled version for just £130.http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-MSI-HD-5770-HAWK-PCI-E-21-%28x16%29-4800MHz-GDDR5-GPU-875MHz-800-Cores-DP-DL-DVI-I-HDMI In terms of DX 11 its just that bit of future-proofing that gives you pice of mind that you GPU won't look like a chew-toy in the next 2 years.

There is nothing really that has such an advanced feature set/ performace for the money. What else is there? The only thing i can think of is the more expensive end of the GTX 460 cards but i've heard terrible things in terms of temps and noise for those.
I have many MANY fans :p

My failure rate of ati cards is 5 out of 6
and 1 out of 5 with nvidia
Does that make me unbiased based on opinion?
Wow, that's quite a number. I've not had so many ATI cards, can only vouch for about 3, and they didn't die, but got replaced by their owners, either as upgrade or because it wasn't doing what it should be doing.

I would recommend getting an ATI at this day and age. I don't think it's going to die on you but if it does within the warranty you will hopefully get your money back, or a new card.

Money issue, (my parents will help me buy a newer card if I sell that one as well which is strange. But hell. Free money im not gonna complain.) but they won't help pay for the GTS as I bought that before I made this "arrangement".

Another long story short. No money. Get money from selling card. Get new card with parents help.

Must ask one more question. Is it worth paying the extra £30 for the extra 250MB of RAM (768mb to 1GB?)
Well, I see you were helped in the time it took me to refresh my pages.

I'll answer this question though. - YES.

Onboard RAM has the biggest impact next to core speed. Just make sure the RAM speed is up to par and isn't slower on the card with more available.

Aww was hoping to get the cheaper one :p. Ok. And I have found memory clock to give the best FPS increase (through overclocking my 8800GT) my core and shader give +5 fps overclocked and memory +15fps overclocked

I don't have any suggestions in terms of which card you should get however, I do recommend that you check that you have a power supply which can satisfy the card you decide on purchasing. This may be the reason why all of the ATI cards that you've used previously have failed.

The only known issue with the 400 series of cards from Nvida is how much power they draw and how hot they get.

a 200 watt tpd and a peak temp of 90c isn't very appealing.

nor is a £50 price bump for no discernible performance increase.

I also disliked ati video cards but since I have the hd 5770 my games have been running better than ever and I can even play crysis on max settings.
