Wow, talk about living in the past. The 6000 series is out. The 4870 is a bit of a dog compared to current cards.Irridium said:Don't know too much about NVIDIA cards, but an ATI 4870 would be a good choice. Its what I'm looking into getting. When I get money.
W7 and my PSU is 650w.octafish said:Wow, talk about living in the past. The 6000 series is out. The 4870 is a bit of a dog compared to current cards.Irridium said:Don't know too much about NVIDIA cards, but an ATI 4870 would be a good choice. Its what I'm looking into getting. When I get money.
OP What PSU do you have, what OS do you have, and are you an Nvidia fanboy?
At the moment the best bang for your buck GPU is the 460GTX, but there are good cards either side of it from ATI.
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620benzooka said:You could also post some other info of your system, as there isn't too much sense getting a graphics card with CPU and RAM are holding you down.
If you aren't sure what components your system consists of, I'd recommend Speccy [http://www.piriform.com/speccy] for that. It's nifty with showing temperatures too.
Then you don't want to limit yourself to anything less than a Directx 11 card. The ATI/AMD 6870 needs a 500watt PSU and the 460GTX is about the same. As long as your PSU is a quality unit you should be fine. Both of these cards should be able to max out most games on a 1080 monitor. Of course pigs like Crysis and Metro 2033 are never happy no matter your GPU. Checkout some reviews, from memory the Nvidia runs a smidgin cooler.Champion360 said:W7 and my PSU is 650w.octafish said:Wow, talk about living in the past. The 6000 series is out. Jeezus! 4gb minimum RAM these days, I hope you have a 64 bit version of Win 7 otherwise you're kind of screwed. That isn't the best chip either, at least it's a quad, but without the L3 cache of the Phenoms it is seriously nerfed.Champion360 said:CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620benzooka said:You could also post some other info of your system, as there isn't too much sense getting a graphics card with CPU and RAM are holding you down.

That's got to be the ram on the graphics card.octafish said:Jeezus! 4gb minimum RAM these days, I hope you have a 64 bit version of Win 7 otherwise you're kind of screwed. if your looking for a semi cheap upgrade but still runs everything modern on high settings, go with the hd radeon 5770, its 130 dollars average now, and im sure it'll be on sales at some point if you watch for it. (i'm running crossfire with two of those and nothing hiccups, NOTHING!)Irridium said:Really? Well shit, I still have a 3850...octafish said:Wow, talk about living in the past. The 6000 series is out.
