So I'm not into shooters that much, but sometimes I just get in the mood to kill. The only shooters I own though are Bioshock which has too much story to just go berserk with and Vegas 2 which is too tactical. I absolutely love both those games, each for thier own reasons, but niether fills this void in my gaming selection. Need something more "arcadish" I guess. Also, I much prefer first-person. And a sandbox single-player if possible.

Postal 2 used to fill that void very nicely, but it's gotten a little boring and I'd prefer something on the console.

So... any idears?

edit: also it would have to be fairly new since I've played most everything, only stopped gaming so much about two years ago, so also no sequels unless they change the gameplay enough to be something new (unique)

Halo: Reach or Black Ops especially if you're into online play. If you have an original Xbox or a PS2/3 I'd definately recommend Timesplitters: Future Perfect as it should fit the bill very nicely.

Red Dead Redemption is simply fantastic for a sandboxish game that has a pretty great story.

As for arcade-ish...I dunno Halo? Black Ops? I didn't really like Halo that much (re-hashed games are re-hashed), and I didn't buy BOps after playing MW2 peed into my eyes for 4 hours.

If you have a PS3 definitely pickup Uncharted for arcade-ish gameplay - it also has a pretty fun story, it's like an Indiana Jones movie as a game.

You people disappoint... You are forgetting Bulletstorm! It has everything the OP stated.
It comes out in a month though, so be patient :) the demo comes out next week.

There's no sandbox, but it's impossible to not have fun playing Serious Sam.
Ninja'd. If you're looking for an excellent FPS where all you need to do is shoot anything that moves, Serious Sam satisfies.

Bulletstorm is a good choice, so you can try to wait it out a bit.

You say you prefer FPSs, but if you're not against third person shooters, and if you have played it yet, maybe try out Saint's Row 2? I pop that in in every now and again whenever I'm in the mood to wreck shit.
