Hello fellow escapists. I come to ask advice today because my Linksys router is a PoS and I need a new router. Not wanting to get burned again, I would love advice on which router to get. I'm not afraid to install DD-WRT, so if thats needed I am okay.

My wife and I both use the internet constantly to play games (WoW, LoL, etc) and stream Netflix on the PS3, so it needs to stand up to some pretty substantial use. Other features are a bonus. Currently I'm looking at a Netgear N600 WRT3400. Its about 80$ and seems to have everything I need. Is there a reason to not get this router?

Thanks!

Netgear, Billion and D-Link are good reliable brands. They're all around the $80-100 AUD mark and I've personally had no problems except SOME Net Gear routers dont allow you to do port forwarding, which is a pain in the arse for some steam games.

I don't play many steam games. So not terribly worried about port forwarding. Though again, DD-WRT is always an option. Seems like I'll snag this netgear I'm looking at. Doesn't have Gigabit ethernet, but then again I don't have gigabit ethernet cards.

I personally wouldn't pay for a Netgear myself. Way too many bad experiences with them for my liking.

I will add DrayTek to the above list though, yet to have a single issue with mine so far. =3

That's basically the opposite of my experiences. I upgraded to a Netgear router from a Belkin one and it was really good, absolutely no problems. Now every single bit of networking gear in my house is Netgear.
