I had a premonition this morning (for some reason, it was the first thing that entered my head this morning).

I'm going to go pick up a copy of Beyond Good and Evil.

Confirm/Deny the amazingness of this decision?
You won't regret it. It's an amazing game.

I'd also recommend Assassin's Creed (particularly two and Brotherhood).

Freelancer - Space shooter with an awesome world and so much modding potential the community is still going strong a decade later.

Scrapland - Third person robot action-adventure game. Lots of shooting, puzzle-solving and detective work in just the right amounts.

Neverwinter Nights 1 - THE original D&D simulator. Running on 3E rules, the official campaigns and adventures are brilliant and you can even make your own with the powerful toolset and campaign builder. As immersive and complex as you would expect an award-winning Bioware game to be. Probably the best for you, judging by your liking of previous Bioware games and similar.

Sometimes you just need to take a break from gaming. Not even a long one or anything, but I know I go through periods of time where I just cannot play games. Maybe there'll be one or two that I can play, but sometimes I just lose my passion for them. Then, out of nowhere, the right game will come along and BAM suddenly I'll be playing a whole heap of new games with renewed vigor again.

Anyway, hopefully you'll have a great time with the games that have been recommended to you so far. Sometimes that's more than enough to break me out of a brief slump.

If you have not played Jade Empire, I suggest you do so at your earliest convenience.

About Scrapland-Did I play the wrong game? That was the one where your robot has dreds and races other robots? And something is killing robots? I remember that game being kid of kiddish. I gave up pretty quickly. Does it become mature after awhile?

Check out Indigo Prophecy. It was the first game by the people who made last years Heavy Rain. Indigo Prophecy has one of the most ingaging storylines I have played.(Beside Alpha Protacol, but that is another story) You can probably find a copy at Amazon. Again, great story, though not really any gameplay. More like an interactive movie.

And I just tried the demo for that Blackwell game, and the voice-acting is TERRIBLE. Distractingly so. I'd need a longer demo if I was going to debate shelling for that.
Rosangela's voice acting isn't that great, but I thought the guy who played Joey did an awesome job. The voice acting is better in the sequel, though, I'll admit.

That's the one. It's a bit silly, but that's really the point - an over-the-top pastiche of detective adventure games. Sort of. The combat is pretty awesome, though.
