PS1- Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy Tactics, Star Ocean 2 (this one is especially awesome), and Breath of Fire 3.

PS2- Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Re-Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 10-2(some people hate it, some adore it, many are in between), Persona 3, Persona 4, Star Ocean 3 (same issue with Final Fantasy 10-2), Disgeia, Disgeia 2, pretty much anything by Nipon Ichi really, and Final Fantasy 12 (same issue again).

That's just off the top of my head. In my opinion these are very fun RPGs, though at times some of them (FF 12) fill with me hatred while others (Star Ocean 2) fill with me infinite joy for the most part.

Well, you need to be a bit more specific. Feel like wading through the JRPG market or going western style?

Wizardry 8.
Damn I tohught I was the only one that had this game. I may replay it.
Heh, it didn't sell that well but I'm sure it sold more than one copy. Check for mods if you replay it. Jagged Alliance 2 is by the same devs and RPG gamers like it even if it's more of a strategy game.

Other than that, you probably already know about Temple of Elemental Evil and Arcanum but you might have missed Divine Divinity and Arx Fatalis.

If you're willing to go for JRPGs, then i suggest going for a couple of classics like FF6 or 7.
There are more interesting ones like the Tales of Abyss or Tales of Destiny on the PS2 or Tales of Vesperia on the 360.

Or if you're really truely stuck for an rpg, sell your soul and buy WoW. New update soon, lots of fire.

For PS1 RPGs, try Valkyrie Profile.

I doubt you'll ever find an original copy since it either didn't sell or American versions were barely produced.(there never was a European release) But the game itself is great, challenging and a bit weird.

ok so technically that isn't the complete list just the years 2000- 2009 but i think you are all smart enough to find the other lists..

No mention of Sacred 2? I'm surprised. It may not be the best RPG out there (Planescape: Torment still tops my list) but it's a decent filler while waiting for Diablo 3.

other classics everybody heard of;

Risen.

recently released. Developed by Piranha Bytes (Gothic series)

game is hard and not for rookies of the rpg genre. If you like exploring and feeling overwhelmed, buy it.

(dont pick the xbox360 version, it sucks)

Just wondering if there's any Decent RPG's I may not be aware of. I've never really played JRPG's

Persona 4.

Yeah, it's a JRPG, but it's one of the few JRPGs that I enjoyed. It breaks out of the stigma of almost y=x linearity and all the bad things that I've seen JRPGs do: flat characters, stereotypical archetypes, repetitive gameplay, unclear motives, bad translations//dialog, hard to follow plot, etc.

Persona 4 does everything opposite that most JRPGs do and it does it fairly well.

It's also one of the few games that I've seen take on a good aesop about humanity, the ego (but I'm convinced you already knew that it had something to do with psychology from the title) sexuality, and society maturely. In this game people fight by summoning monsters that reflect their personality, and you get stronger by making more friendships and epiphanies.

By now it must seem like I'm sucking up to it, but it really is one of my favorite RPGs and the only JRPG that actually somewhat touched me. It has a genuinely great cast, decent music and mechanics, a good plot, and extremely well written dialog.

The escapist also did a review for it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/5563-Review-Persona-4

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVFoSnRE03k better review

Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 are pretty good.

Persona 3 is also a good console JRPG.

Wait for November 3rd/6th and buy Dragon Age Origins. You can't go wrong with Bioware.
This. Fuck to the yes.
