Alright, so I've been hearing that if I upgraded my MoBo BIOS, I could use an AM3 socket CPU on my AM2+ socket mobo. I currently have the Phoenix-Award BIOS at v. 5.14 and would like to find an update, and BIOS agent plus told me there was a new version *but it wanted to charge me for it* So can anyone help me find it and tell me how to install it?

Eeeeeh, I wouldn't want to mess with that if you're not used to handling hardware. I know you gotta learn it somehow, but if something happens whilst flashing your BIOS (updating it) you can, in severe cases, wave goodbye to that mobo.

OT; I'll need your specific make and model of your motherboard to find any sort of BIOS software.

Word. This fella is right about the risks, no backing up or restoring that stuff, before installing the new one you have to completely erase the old one.

If you are determined though I'd imagine there's plenty of step-by-steps if you just google it. At least I know there is for Intel chipsets, I'd imagine theres guides for AMD too.

Alright, well after checking my CPU again, I realized I don't really NEED to change it. The one I have is fine, just seems to be broken. It's an AMD phenom x4 9550 with a cpu multiplier strangely locked at 5.5x. It used to be a lot more than 5.5x, so if I could just fix that problem, I'd probably be set with my new GFX. Also, my BIOS offers NO settings whatsoever for CPU speeds.

Alrighty, I'll do them in order.
First off, I have a pretty old CPU, which is supposed to have a default 11 CPU multiplier, so that's not it.
I do not use CrossFire/SLI, but then again, for most of the games I play I don't need it. I replaced my old PSU with a new one, so that's not it. I have a good 6 gigabytes of RAM, so that's not the issue. Trust me, it's not graphical at all.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
well you can find bios updates on your mobo makers website, they shouldnt charge for them but its one of those things I would be careful with poking around with since if the update messes up then your mobo will be messed up also, if your not used to doing it but you still want to I would suggest checking to see if your mobo has duel bios and then trying, if it does have duel bios then even if it messes up you can just switch to the other one and everything will be ok
