Ok, so I was having a go at a virus that had affected my pc recently. I Managed to take it out, but it kept coming back every few days ( In case you were wondering what it was, it was a Win 7 Malware. It disguises itself as an Antimalware product and is a scam to get you to buy a fake product)

After having enough, I decided to clear my hard drive. I made my computer delete my hard drive but got cold feet a few minutes later. Now, I get this mesage

Media test Failure, check cable.

It won't stop! I've tried to look for help, but I was overwhelmed! Can you guys help me? ( I wanted to post this is Advice, but there are hardly anyone there, and I really need this problem fixed as soon as possible.)

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite Laptop

Ack! You didn't reset/reboot during the delete, did you? That's never a good thing to do.

Have you tried using your OS Installation or Recovery disk? You should have one or the other... if not get one... If you've just borked your OS install this should start you in the right direction to sorting things out. Don't expect to recover any files though, because it looks like you're gonna need to do a reinstall.

If the puter won't run the disk, you'll probably have to get into CMOS and set the boot order with your dvd drive as first boot device.

That's about all I can offer for the moment.

Yea, I did reset. I guess that is what is causing the problem. I'm making a recovery disk right now. I'm really praying it will work. I really don't want to tell my parents about this.

Question

Getting media test failure, check cable error when computer boots.

Additional information

This error message also relates to users who are getting the below error message or similar error messages.

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-061: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

Answer

This issue is often caused by either an incorrect setting in CMOS Setup or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard disk drive.

Verify your boot options are properly set in CMOS setup. We recommend having the CD or disc drive as your first boot device and then hard drive as the second boot device.
If your CMOS Setup has an option to boot from the LAN disable this option.
If you have changed any CMOS settings, make sure to save and reboot the computer.
If this does not resolve the issue, try resetting the CMOS values to the default settings, save and exit.

EDIT: Also if you feel like hitting your laptop.

These guys seem to think it works.
Thanks for the suggestions. It didn't work, but thanks anyway!

For future reference, don't interrupt the HDD when it's writing/deleting unless you've got no other choice, it's bad for the HDD and can result in anything from unrecoverable bad sectors (permanently losing parts of storage) to locked heads (what the whacking is all about) to platters becoming unbalanced (HDD is borked, time for new one).
