So, the other day I received a message over Xbox Live from someone on my friends list - who I don't know particularly well, we only ever played FIFA together - that went like this:

I'm playing Need for Speed hot Pursuit. It features 'Autolog Recommends' which suggests gameplay based on your friends' play. Get the game and let's compete against each other.

It may seem a minor issue, but I was actually offended by this, as it can only be described as intrusive advertising. I myself have never even played a Need for Speed game, so unless it was an automated message sent to everyone on his friends list, I have no idea why I got it (if I'm right in thinking it's made by EA, I have played some of their games).

The thing that got to me most was the simple phrase 'get the game'. If this is allowed, what's to stop every other publisher doing the same, spamming your inbox with automated voice messages telling you to buy their latest game, under the proviso that someone on your friends list has it, so you should too!

Any thoughts?

Sounds like the console game equivalent of facebook game notifications "invites" ... hopefully there's a way of turning it off. It gets old incredibly fast.
