So, does reboot mean that they can recycle the same titles for the 3rd time, and confuse people even more?

Except there is. If the publicity is "this is screwing people over, avoid at all cost" then people won't suddenly do that very thing out of curiosity - they'll stay the hell away from it.
How is them "rebooting" the franchise screwing people over? It's a little asinine seeing as there was never a continuous franchise to be rebooted, but I don't think they're doing customers a disservice by doing so.
You're not getting it, did you? There IS such a thing as bad publicity and screwing people over is one of these things. This, obviously, is NOT screwing people over, it's just EA being stupid aka being EA. Which is also bad publicity, as always.

*Snert*.

So, we're going to tie up all the loose threads from the deep, enduring story lines and characters NFS has brought us thus far?

...Or is it that the way we visualize and control a car has received such a revolutionary overhaul that nothing short of a "reboot" could allow the developers to achieve their vision?

...

Or is it more that they've become confused by the run of numbers and colon-following subtitles, and need to start over...? Or perhaps they're trying to make us forget that they tried to make a movie out of this franchise?

Y'know, whatever. Howzabout you ease up on the PR sleight-of-hand and just make a decent game?

If this "reboot" doesn't have Aaron Paul in it, then I'm buying a copy of Need For Speed: Burnout instead...

Other than that, is Need For Speed: Burnout any good? I'm going to assume that it's going to be better than the "reboot" somehow...

I haven't played NFS since the PC version of Hot Pursuit way back in the early aughts... Well that was the last time I played one I owned, I think I played a demo of some version a few years back on 360 but I've never been much of a racing game fan anyway... Except Midnight Club 1 & 2, those were fun at the time for some reason.
Meh, rebooting a franchise I don't care about? Doesn't bother me... besides its not like it had story or continuity anyway so how is it exactly rebooting? Reviving maybe?

Would prefer if Rockstar announced another Midnight Club, NFS Underground and the others felt a little empty compared to all the classes like Bikes, Choppers, old muscle cars and modern tuners in Midnight Club.

As long as it's good, EA. But, I'm holding my breath cause of you. That, and "all footage captured in game..." Oh fuck off. That's a lie and you know it. If this bombs, I can look back to NFS MW (2005 one, not the shit one) and smile at how good it actually was

Yeah, do they actually need "Reboot" in the announcement? Couldn't they have just said "A new Need For Speed game"?

After reading the topic title I let out an audible "ugh" which pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

While I'm pretty excited to see NFS some back, I'm left with the same cocked eyebrow as the rest of you.
I really didn't like Rivals, mainly because of the whole "no pausing" thing. Yeah, I'm hatin' on a game for one thing, but that one thing is PAWZING DA GAIM.
Anyways.
Hey, more Need For Speed, not sure what "reboot" means but hey, more Need For Speed.

If it's anything like Underground 2, we'll finally get a proper good arcade-y street racing game.
I miss a fun night-time street racing games that has good music and a very good amount of in-game car mods options.
A game with Snoop Dogg, Rise Against, Queens of the Stone Age AND Paul Van Dyk in its soundtrack? NFS U2 was really fun.

I'm just gonna put this up here. Coolest intro song to a game EVAAAAAR.

Well, superficially it looks like they're going for the NFS:Underground aesthetic, which means this could still be the Underground 3 that was rumoured a while back.

But calling it a reboot is dumber than dumb. The only thing I can think is that they wanted to get back to the NFSU/U2/MW/Carbon type of games (i.e. the best and most popular, and thus likely biggest selling ones) but thought people might be scared of lockout if they saw a 3 on the end, or something.

I have no faith left in EA at this point, so I'm not really holding my breath for a game in the vein of Underground 2 or Most Wanted.

Very, very cautious opitimism would describe my attitude towards this, I think. But there's always the feeling that EA will find some way to fuck it up immensely.

How exactly do you reboot a car racing game, this is just the next in the series it's not like it's redoing the story or something from scratch the story is your in a car, race and win, and also it's only been 2 years since it's last title.

Call me when we go Underground again.

Underground 2 is the standard that I hold all racing games to. Most Wanted (you know which one) came really close, Burnout 3 and Revenge came really close. Since then, nothing.

Get rid of the social-features and just make a f***ing racing game with nice cars and nice tracks that I can play without having to connect to Origin & Facebook. Preferably the game will allow me to play alone and be able to pause the game whenever I want, skip all cutscenes whenever I want and also let me and my RL-friends use all content in splitscreen-multiplayer without having to grind through the game first.

Is this the game you're making, EA? Because if not then you can still go f*** yourself.

[finger crossing] Mass Effect: the racing game [finger crossing]

Come on, EA. You own both.
