Most anything turn based if he likes that kind of thing. What comes to mind mainly are stratagy games and JRPGs.

Trackmania - highly addictive racing, just need the arrow keys.

Now more importantly, I don't see why jokes about masturbation are "lame", especially when even the people counting down comments until someone makes a "lame" joke about it are clearly thinking it. It's on the majority of peoples' minds, so why are we all hiding behind the pretense that we're better than that. Please don't tell me that it was just me whose heart sunk when I read it was a broken arm and not... You know... One hand busy flogging the bishop.

Picked up the Endless Space beta from Steam a couple of weeks back and its pretty much entirely mouse driven. Definitely worth a look if he likes the old 4X strategy games (Masters of Orion, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc) and a very nice looking game too boot. Also, its a huge timesink being a turn based game.

You could probably get away with just using a mouse in Diablo 3 as well, but it would likely need a few extra buttons to make up for the 5 keyboard buttons you need to press. Hell, on normal you could probably knock that down to 2 keyboard buttons.

Tower defence would probably suit too, so PvZ or Defence Grid: Awakening for that I'd say.

I'd recommend anything turn based. I can recommend a few flash games with massive replay value[since everything else here was taken that I know at the moment.]

The Rebuild+Rebuild 2 series is a great turn based game using only a mouse.

Mardek series turn based combat, 3 games, great story, each one gets longer and longer with 3-5 for the first, 20ish for the second and the third you can get another 20-50+ depending on achievements, farming and such.

The Last Stand: Union City

Any TCG game you can find on say Kongregate, Armorgames are nice and simple for mouse only.

Try games of Facebook, all of those energy management ones can allow him to build up a lot of time if he's stuck around doing nothing all day.

If he wants something else, he could try Super Monday Night Combat on Steam, that's a bit more action, DOTA style, mouse, WASD, and the ability to reach down to Lshift, Q, E, R,

Doom 1 & 2

I have a one handed friend who has played the crap out of them. It's keyboard only and the game takes care of vertical aiming automatically since it's not a fully 3D game.

he plays by remapping strafe and open around the arrow keys, but you could easily set up a good control scheme anywhere around the keyboard.

You can buy it from anywhere and take the .wad files out of the games directory and run a good source port. That gives you better stability on new systems, ups the resolution, and adds a mountain of customization options.

My favorite source port:

You can even run zDoom off a thumb drive :p

Them being the greatest shooters ever created is also a plus.

edit: You can get the Doom shareware version free all over the place
http://www.doomarchive.com/download.asp?FileId=5583
Just drop that in a source port's directory

And as a serous answer I say Starcraft.
Well, you won't be winning any games that way unless you're in the bottom of bronze. You can't be quick enough otherwise, especially if you mean 1. You need them, since for any large army you'd have to use control groups.
OT: Turn based strategies, or slower rts's like Age of Empires of Dawn of War. You don't need to use hotkeys for that.

The Phoenix Wright games on the DS or any other Visual Novel type stuff. Press A repeatedly to win or just touchscreen everything.

I love the Ace Attorney games, just a glace at my DS could tell you that. Every button is in pristine condition except the A button which has gone all faded and worn...
It is very entertaining that your avatar is Keima whilst you suggest this, made me smile.

"I can already see the ending.....my A button will be completely worn out by the time this is done."

To list some DS examples. Other than every PC Visual Novel you can find online.
-999
-Theresia
-Ghost Trick
-Hotel Dusk (I think, I can't confirm)

And RPGMaker games as well (Yume Nikki and the fan sequels, Ib)

I would suggest Journey if you had a PS3. I once had to play it one handed as I tried to eat my dinner and play the game at the same time. Simply put, I didn't want to be a dick and just drop out on my partner, but didn't want my food to go cold so what else could I do? Wasn't easy, but I did it.

Civ 5 just came out with an awesome expansion, and the game overall is absolutely wonderful. If there's no preconceptions about what a Civ game should be, its perfect.

The downside? Well, you say he only has a couple of weeks until he heals, and Civ can eat WAAAAY more time then a few weeks.

If you value having a life after a few weeks, brows interesting things in steams Casual/puzzle section. Stuff that resembles board games, or just turn based strategy in general. Greed Corp is pretty great. Atom Zombie Smasher is surprisingly fun. Spacechem, Frozen Synapse and Defcon are remarkably cerebral and satisfying. The Magic games are great, but also take a look at the simpler game that's about as deep and made by the same designer, Spectromancer. There's World of Goo, a wide assortment of point and click adventure games like the Monkey Island games, Plants versus Zombies, Puzzle Quest, and really, most RTS are pretty playable one handed. Even some action-y games like Diablo, Torchlight or Bastion could be done with just the mouse.

I guess the point here is that once you leave the world of shooters, fighters, some RPGs and platformers, your really spoiled for choice.

Someone may have already suggested this, but pretty much any Pokemon game can be played with only one hand.

ESPECIALLY if it's one of the older ones (GBA and below) if you own a Gameboy Advance SP.

The SP is just the right size and shape where it can be held with one hand and your thumb can easily reach back and forth between the D-Pad and the buttons (well...mine can, you might have smaller hands than me, I dunno)

But yeah, I suggest Pokemon. Very laid back game, easy to play with one hand.

If he's got a DS anything by Shu Takami (Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick) is generally a great choice. If he doesn't have a DS you can still get the first Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick on iOS. The first couple chapters of Ghost Trick are actually free so if it's not his cup of tea you don't have to sink cash in.
