Need gaming advise

I need help in a decision involving gaming.
Recently my little albino turd gave up the ghost and red-ringed on me so i have taken a shine to PC gaming. I am very into strategy games like medieval 2 and other and don't have the time to play games like WOW but can donate a lot of time every now and then. I am looking for a PC game for a reasonable spec computer which is similar to civilization/sim city but with a more Sci-fi aspect to it like civilisation in space

I have tried sins of the solar empire and didn't like it so please don't recommend it.

I think you might like Spore. And if all else fails, just cut the RTS line completley and get The Orange Box.

Can't think of any that are too much like that. If you want sci fi though I would suggest Star Wars: Empire at War, the Dawn of War series, Starcraft, Command and Conquer series (Tiberium and Red Alert), and if you are willing to stomach a pseudo modern era game then World in Conflict is a must.

Starcraft is good. Try Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, it's a fun rts by the makers of age of empires, plus it's older so it runs great on any machine.

If you'd rather play a turn-based Civilization-style strategy game instead of an RTS like Starcraft or Dawn of War (because that's what you said in your post and I'll pretend I didn't see so many RTS suggestions above), you could always give IN SPACE [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Civilizations_II:_Dread_Lords].

Sins of a solar empire?
it's pretty complex and space born with colonization and resource building.

and it's got a sci fi / futuristic feel to it.
if you play on the larger sets with more enemies a game can go on for a long time or you can play small and finish a game relatively quickly.
