Im trying to install XP on to my laptop (currently running Vista) but I keep on getting the same error.

Error code 4. The file setupdd.sys could not be loaded.

If I was using a PC or upgrading from another version of XP, I would be able to handle this no problem but Vista, being the piece of shit it is, is giving some problems. For instance, I havent a fucking clue what to do since I learned everything in XP.

I know its a problem with the RAM but I dont want to open up my laptop. I also read a way to fix it by going into the BIOS but it didnt go into any detail on how to actually do it, so Im reluctant to go fiddling around with it.

Any suggestions?

Stop hating on Vista... why must you dismiss every single computer problem as "Fucking Vista", maybe it's not the fault of the OS. I am sick and tired of everyone bashing Vista... Yes, we get it, Vista is not the best OS, but it's not the worst. Do any of you remember Windows ME? Do you? Just be patient, stop complaining, and wait for Windows 7 to come out.

Maybe you should try to learn how to do stuff in Vista.

Yet you still blame the operating system?

I wish I knew how to fix hardware, but I don't. You should call a tech-support line. If you have a genuine problem and aren't pants-on-head retarded, they should be happy to help you. I mean, that's what they're paid to do.

You could try upgrading to the Windows 7 Release Candidate and if that works out for you, plan on buying the full version when it's released and the RC stops working.

Are you trying to format and install, or just downgrade without losing your stuff? I'm not sure you can downgrade to XP once you have Vista unless you're willing to wipe your HD and do a fresh install.

If the problem really is with your RAM, try opening up the RAM door (most laptops have one so you can upgrade without cracking the case) and removing and re-seating the RAM. Or try running with just 1 stick and see if you can't figure out which one is giving your problems.

I know that the problem isint Vista, its just because Im running Vista, Im not able to fix the problem myself because they changed how EVERYTHING is laid out. Some parts, Ill admit, I do like but, as a Gamer, I dispise it cause I cant play a lot of games on it. Not just old games either, AoE 3 doesnt work, Sims 2 doesnt work. And I think its fucking bullshit. Games made by Microsoft dont even run on it.

I have everything backed up on my external HD so I was planning on just wiping the whole thing. Im pretty sure I have a virus which is also why Im wiping it.
Ill try that with the RAM, thanks.
