Hi, I have just bought a HP mini ( a kind of really small laptop) and as it is so small it doesn't have a disc drive.

The guy at the shop told me i could install things onto this 'mini' by inserting a disc into my big PC, then networking it so that I can access the disc on my 'mini'.

Only, I can't do this.

My big PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate v 7000 Beta and my mini is running Windows XP.

If anyone can help or give a link to somewhere that can help that would be appreciated, thanks.

Shucks, you could do that. Wouldn't it be easier to get the stuff off your disc, put them on a USB stick and place that in your HP mini? ... Surely it has USB?

Or an external USB CD-ROM drive?

Networking the two home PC's like that is the really long winded way about it.

Just think about the story of Peter Packet, then you'll know what is wrong

Then you need to put them both in the same workgroup, then just connect a cable in between them, no need using a router/switch/hub in between, just hook em up to eachother, and make sure that on both computers you have a shared folder that is shared to everyone.
