Very rarely do I buy games for the PC, however last week I made an exception and bought Mass Effect for 6 bucks on the PC. After installing it my laptop's battery port broke and I had to send it in in hopes they can get it fixed. My fear is that they might have to wipe the memory and I would have to re-install the game , this is were my question is. If I do have to reinstall it can I use the same key code or are they going to say that code is already registered go pay 20 bucks for a new one?

EDIT: The PC gaming world is a whole new territory for me, I grew up on consoles and am just venturing into PC games other than Diablo, Gunbound, GunZ, and the occasional Maplestory when I am bored as hell.

Where did you buy Mass Effect? Was it 1)from steam, or through the 2)EA download manager? Or did you buy 3)the dvd in a shop?

1)Just reinstall steam, login, and download the game again, no problem.
2)Go to the website of EA, get the download manager, login with your email and password, and download the game again.
3)Just reinstall from the game.

In no way do you have to buy the key again. Never. The game is yours now, as long you don't share the key with other people (or in the case of EA download manager, install the game over three different times or on different PC's), you will be fine. Good luck!

EA just recently released their tool to remove authorizations from computers, so you can download that and de-authorize your laptop if need be. I'm pretty sure Mass Effect allows like 3-5 simultaneous authorizations to begin with though.
