I'm considering getting a new phone to replace my Motorola Q9h. I was planning on sticking with AT&T, so my options are a little limited. I don't want an iPhone (yes I realize I'm only screwing myself but given how anti-Apple I am my friends and family would NEVER let me live it down) but I keep seeing issues with each alternative that feel like deal-breakers from what I can read.

I was strongly considering a Blackberry Bold until I read that the web browser sucks and that a number of developers are abandoning it for Android. Are these fears unfounded or is this valid?

Android is nearly non-existent on AT&T, with the only one available (Motorola Backflip) having an outdated OS and the upcoming HTC Desire being the only other option. Is the Desire worth waiting for? I'm also not big on having a touch screen keyboard, but to be fair I've never really had to use one.

I'm a little worn out on Windows Mobile. It seems like most of the recent WinMo devices suck, and Windows 7 Mobile hasn't exactly impressed me yet, not to mention I don't feel like waiting until Holiday 2010 to upgrade.

I'd consider a Palm but considering they're probably not going to make it past 2010 I don't think it's wise to invest in a sinking ship.

Basically I want a phone that I won't be regretting in a year because of outdated technology or from a lack of good apps available. Can anyone address the points I made here and help make a recommendation?

All things considered, for what your after, the iPhone would probably suit your needs;

With the options provided though, id say choose Palm - Because whatever you get, youll probably replace it in 2011... Presumably

I've been using an Android G1 phone for over a year love it, though I do not like my provider. Any performance problems I've experienced I've been able to trace back to the network I'm on. I'm currently waiting for the new HTCs to come out on Verizon or Sprint this summer to jump ship. I've become so used to having the web always with me I don't want to go back to a regular phone. Besides, the thing I use the least on my phone is the phone. Or maybe I'll just get a netbook and use skype.

Screw it. Just get a phone that does what a phone needs to do call people and text people. I know I probably sound like a cheap-ass but phones keep getting outdated every 2 years you can spend $300 on a phone but in two years you'll be drooling at the new piece of shiny technology, and have to spend another $300.

Get an iPhone. To hell with your friends. It's easily one of the best put together and most functional mobile devices I've ever used, and it would meet your needs well.

I've been looking at the HTC Desire for a while and might be getting one in the next couple of weeks if it's available on my current price plan (which, given how little I'm paying, it probably isn't). My friend got one a couple of days ago and is loving it.

I dunno, I guess give a few different things a try.

I have a feeling this is gonna be quoted for an apple ad in the near future.

OT: Just get an iphone. With it being so popular theres so many apps and such being developed for it which are quite useful.

Wait until August. There is a new batch of phones coming out this summer and you might kick yourself if you don't wait.

It looks like I'm going to have to wait. Feels like there's no really good phones out there that can do all that I want. Let's hope that changes this summer.

Looks appealing, but I don't want to deal with Symbian OS..
