I've currently had my computer for about 3years and have saved up a fair bit on money in my first year at University so when my friend donated me a Q9400 processor and a 650Watt power supply I decided to give a go at improving my graphics card.
I know very little about computers and the like so I need some help as to what to put in it.

Current Things I can play around with:
CPU: Q9400 2.66GHZ
Ram: 6144MB (2*2048+2*1024) 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel
650Watt PSU
I'm looking to spend no more than £900 to upgrade my PC and I'm looking at a variation here of either a dual HD5870 or a single HD5970 but I'm still not sure if I it is worth getting an i7 with the current Q9400 and what about RAM does having DDR3 ram make much difference?
