A friend of mine who is considerably less computer savvy than....well, anyone I know, gave me a video card he had because it couldn't use it. It's an ATI Radeon PCI-E card, and he has an AGP board, so he couldn't use it anyway. But he gave it to me without the box or disc or anything else, and I can't find a driver for it anywhere.

Now, I know that sounds like whining, but I'm going out of my mind trying to find this driver. I've searched the part number, the serial number, and the chipset number, but I can't come up with a name for this card. It LOOKS like a Radeon X800 XT PCI-E card, however ATI only covers that under their legacy drivers, and their legacy drivers don't work. So if anyone has a drivers resource they know of, I could really use some help.

I just got Supreme Commander 2 and I wanna plaaaayyyyyy. :(

How can the model not be written anywhere on the card? That's not right...
If it is on there I can't identify it. There's also no name on it short of "Radeon". It doesn't even have the ATI logo on it, I just know that Radeon = ATI. At this point I'm willing to throw my arms up in the air and declare it was a hot glued prank that just HAPPENS to function as a working video card.

No other logos either? Sapphire? HIS? Asus? PowerColor? Gigabyte? Diamond? XFX? MSI?

Download GPU-Z, maybe it can read the chipset without any drivers installed... If it can't just try to install some older Catalyst release; Each one generally contains drivers for a large number of cards, until they stop being supported.
Awesome, that got it. Apparently the legacy driver that ATI gave me wasn't the most recent and that tracked it down. Thanks.

But now I'm curious; what was it??
It is a Radeon X800 XT PCI-E card, I did have that much right. So now I just need to determine whether this is better than my on board video.

Of course, I'll never be able to tell until SupCom 2 finishes updating over steam....in about 3 hours.....

It's better than your onboard video, but not enough for SupCom 2.

But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Well, my onboard is a Radeon HD 3450, but it is an onboard chip, so I dunno. I figured an independant GPU might work better.

Then again, with my flakey internet, it looks like I'll never get this game updated, and this might have been money wasted. God I hate online games.

Wasn't expecting that as your onboard GPU, I reckon that will be better than the x800. Still processors important and all that other blah.

I remember having an x800 years ago and it being terrible though.

Well, if it turns out to be worse I'll just yank it until I can pick up the HD 5000 series I saw at the store when I picked up the game. It's good to have options. I'll only be slightly miffed at all the time I wasted on this video card.
