Need Help With an Application...Suggestions Pleeaaase

Heya Escapist, I need your help:

Basically, every year, my school sends 2 A-Level History students on a trip to the infamous Nazi Death Camp, Auschwitz. All those who want to go need to write an application of why they want to, and should, go on the trip.

Now I have a few ideas, but not enough to make a decent application, and I really, really want to go.

So, I know this is kinda cheap, but I would really like some suggestions as to what I can write. Why would you want to go there, if given the choice?
Any and all suggestions will be so appreciated guys, but lets all keep this serious okay:].

and finally how long?

I'm not Jewish- I'm actually half Austrian and my Grandfather fought [against his will] in Stalingrad for the Nazi army. He was actually a POW himself, so I was thinking about incorporating that somehow...
My writing style...most of the time I'm kinda informal...I suppose I write how I talk?
It's just one person that reviews them.
And it has to be around 1 A4 page.

I'm not Jewish- I'm actually half Austrian and my Grandfather fought [against his will] in Stalingrad for the Nazi army. He was actually a POW himself, so I was thinking about incorporating that somehow...

ok lemme give this my best shot although this isnt my best for me since im really only good at doing reports but i have written essays like this before(not on this topic), but never for anything like this tho

between 1940 and 1945, Auschwitz was one of the biggest Nazi Germany death camps with over one million estimated deaths, the carnage that was inflicted by the Nazis will/can(either or) never be forgotten as one of the largest genocides(it might be largest not sure never took EU history) in European history, the mountains of bodies that were left at this camp alone (try to find out actual number of how many mortuary's(graveyard) the bodys could fill, im doing 1000 per) could fill 1000 mortuary's, and to be able to see Auschwitz firsthand with my own eyes would be a experience that i would never be able to forget. (this would be sorta how id start it, the ending is kinda weak though and could be strengthened. i underlined it, i just feel it could be better)

i would use the fact that your grandfather was involved in the war, and since only one person reviews them it makes it easier, since that means you have less people writing and a better chance of being picked. (tho thats my guess)
