well what can i say, it started life as a crappy computer running windows 98 or 95, from there it's been owned by someone else who upgraded it various times (i don't honestly know what though)

anyways it recently returned to us, and my dad was about to throw it out (probably becuase it has 127mb RAM and is running XP professional, it takes nearly and hour to boot up and just as long to shut down, uninstalling anything from it makes it BSoD)

oh and the reason it's a screenshot from canyourunit.com is because i took picture from that site showing how it sizes up to gta4, as a joke to pretend it's my main computer.

my question is, what should i do with this? at the minute I'm thinking i should install windows 98 on it and use it purely for playing old games i have that won't run on xp or vista (games designed for windows 95 and 98)

What? Throw Linux on that bad boy and see how much faster it runs!
You can still play older games using WINE, and it'll run much much better.

Linux on old computers FTW.

OR do what Baby Tea said. Linux is fun.
i already have an up to date one, but i like this old one too, I have many fond memories with it, like the time it wouldn't boot up so i could print out work so i kicked it and knocked it over then it worked fine!

its hard drive (30gb or so) has never wiped itself, I'm still traumatised after i lost everything on this 500gb one

DARN NEW COMPUTERS! anyways, more info on linux? I've only ever used windows, i'm on vista right now >:D

Sme minor upgrades will make it fine since it has xp on it.

say 300gig HDD, 2 gigs ram minimum. decent graphics card (MAYBE a sound card).

Aside form that it should work fine.

and dont ever, EVER use linux for gaming.

IT's suicide, theres too little support for it and fffffaaarrrrrr too many issues. Best to stick with vista. That way you are GUARENTEED to have a FULLY working patch for any MAJOR problems within 1-4 weeks. Where as with linux it's more like 1-4 months/years.

It is the bastard child of windows and mac end of story. It is a horrible, horrible OS only used by people who are far too jaded by windows refusing to let them hack its base code to put quite frankly idiot and moronic skins on it.

Or you can simply save yourelf a lot of hassle and spent £250 on a brand new one from say tesco and it'll suit most of your needs.

Linux. Ubuntu too. You will actually be able to use the computer at a reasonable speed.

you need to do two things, install windows 98, and install a kvm switch so that you could use only one monitor/keyboard/mouse for both computers

Either do this, or, like Baby Tea said, install Linux.

Or you could just take it outside, put it on the ground, and destroy it with a sledgehammer. That's what I'd do; computers have given me so much trouble in the past, especially the school computers. They're awful.

Overclock the CPU, then remove the cooling unit and watch that baby fly.
Keep your distance though.
