need help with computer mods please!

so i have an hp laptop that i bought last November, and i think i want to give it a boost in ram. i was wondering, how much would it be? is there like a certain kind for laptops or something? or is it all universal?

honestly i suck with hardware, so any help would be good.

There is a certain type for laptops, assuming that the laptop can have new memory put in. Laptops can facist about their hardware setups. A good portion of them won't let you change a thing. If there is no easy access panel on the bottom, there is no way to change it.

i have the easy access panel. so im assuming that means that i can change it out, and there is a special kind of ram for laptops?

Yes, desktop sticks won't work. Laptop sticks are a lot narrower. Open then panel and have a look at the port, then look for memory sticks that would fit. The main thing to pay attention to is the number of notches and their location.
