Uhh, I was starting a new game in Fallout 3, doing the mission where youve gotta get the satellite dish for Three-Dog, and on my way, I got completely crippled everywhere except my head. Didnt die, but very crippled. (Going up against super-mutant brutes at level 5 IS NOT RECCOMENDED) I was about to sit down and take a stinpak, then noticed I had one. Tried to sit down anyway, on my way to the bench BAM my character suddenly stopped being able to move.

Game still ran, I could pause, the HUD didnt freeze, and my weapon hotkeys still worked. But my guy wouldnt move, couldnt even turn around except when I fiddled with the controls a bunch, same with the pip-boy. I had an auto-save from maybe 10 minutes earlier, but then I checked if fast travelling would help. Travelled nearby, moved 2 steps and froze again. After fiddling and taking out my fat man, I could take another three steps and froze. I found if I fiddled with my pip boy button, managed to take it out and equip a new item, I could take roughly three steps before freezing again.

Then ofc I noticed I couldnt use my Auto-save, because I had just fast travelled so I had a new, stuck auto save. And my last working save is two hours of gameplay ago! Anyone know what the hell is going on? Also, before you say its a pirated copy and its bethesdas pirate protection, im playing on an xbox, using the Special edition that comes in a metal lunchbox :D.

It isnt my Xbox or my controller, I checked. Tried every controller I have, switched batteries, and checked how hot my xbox was. Its lukewarm, the controllers are fine for other games...everythings just gone f*cked up. I loaded my 2-hour ago save, but I want to be able to use my current saves too. Can anyone help?

Well you just have to deal with playing those two hours again, it sucks but Fallout is buggy sometimes and pulls some stupid shit. Just restart your console and do it all over again. :D

Maybe it's the crippling that prevents you from moving. Fast travel to a town to get patched up and use that trick of yours to walk a bit further.. I can't help you more than that.

I've never heard of such a problem...
except...

Oblivion had this weird glitch, where if you performed a spell as you walked through a door, you would glitch, and be stuck, unable to move, turn, or perform some basic actions like jump and crouch. And fast travel would just teleport you in your gimped form to somewhere else. Effectively tanking your save. They updated on a patch. It could be a similar problem. Were you doing anything at the time when you froze?

Yes, I was trying to sit down and take out my pip boy at almost the same time on a bench in washington.

AH HA!

see. The engine that Oblivion and Fallout 3 use does some strange things. Whenever an object goes from a position of rest, to moving, it fidgits. You can see this when you say... pick up something thats resting in a bowl. The bowl fidgits. The characters do the same thing when fast traveling, opening doors, sitting, or interacting with the environment. I don't know what it is about performing an action while you fidgit, but i think it gets you stuck in the geometry of the floor. Unfortunately, i don't think theirs much you can do... I saved my oblivion file by fast traveling somewhere and a horse was right in front of me. I got on the horse, then back off, and it re-set. I don't know if there is anywhere in fallout where you can do something like that, but you never know. Look around, scout around, think about it. You might just pull it off.

Heyyy! I can sit on the bench :D But I only get bursts of movement about a second long every few mins, and I already used them to get about ten spaces away from the bench '-.-

Can you switch armor? Pitty that game doesn't have vehicles or horses. If you try the bench, and it doesn't work, then... try talking to someone, or water.. maybe if you go swimming it will work. Anyways, thats all i can think of.

Best of luck!!!

Im in the middle of super-mutant infested DC. Theres no one around. As I said, switching weaps lets me walk for about 3 steps but taking the pip-boy out is hard.

Interesting problem, could it be that the game somehow makes you over-encumbered? Could maybe dropping everything from your inventory and fast traveling work?

Lolwut, dropping everything?! if you do that in DC it gets stolen. Err...I might as well just nuke myself.A And over-encumbering doesnt freeze you completely, it just stops you running. You can still walk.

Except for when you go into third person and move the camera around.
er, this is the xbox version, camera is always behind you, and theres only one angle and zoom you can have.

I checked brah, its absolutely fine. I keep it safe inside the fallout 3 special edition lunchbox. With the pip-boy bobblehead to guard it. RAR

There are a couple of chairs that are impossible to get off. One of the many is in "My Megaton House".

Unless you meant sit-down as in found a safe area...
Nah, see, I TRIED sitting down then my guy froze. Didnt actually sit on it.

No...

Hold the view change button and rotate the right-thumbstick.

In response to your problem, you're basically screwed.

Having played it on the ps3 and having a freind playing it on the pc and amazingly another freind who has played it on the xbox, you have the worst platform to play it on. (I'm not saying that to anger you, i'm saying it because it is widly agreed)
But in response to your plea, what i recommend is that you start again from scratch! My reason is that you can wander around the wasteland gathering xp and discovering locations and getting used to the game itself and how it works! Theeeen when you think you have been wandering for long enough, you can launch into you're missions and gain MOOORE xp by completing the mission! And the cool thing is you can fast travel to the mission location (in you're case, from GNR to the washington thingy) without getting bogged down bt nasty mutants! And if in you're travels you get into the same state you're in now, it not so important because you're not on a mission!

Er, no, you got it wrong. Xbox is the worst OBLIVION platform, but ps3 has the worst fallout 3, interestingly. Also interestingly and amazingly, it looks better on xbox than on Ps3. Its definitely the opposite with oblivion. Look it up :D

I think Fallout 3 is just really buggy like that. In situations like that you just sort of have to load from an earlier save and hope for the best.
Well, games that are so big and AWESOME are hard to keep un-bugged. Oh well.
