I just received a message that a Trojan attached itself to my processor's dual-core .exe file. I believe it happened from viewing a Twitter profile. So far, a Google search hasn't found anything about this particular virus: Trojan horse Generic 17.CED

The first sign of something wrong was when I noticed my monitor's color resolution was funky. Please, can anyone help me with this?

google spybot search and destroy and there should be a website that allows you to download it free. just set it up and run it. it may take a while for it to sift through all of your computer's files to find the thing but it works. i had a bunch of spyware and malware on my computer and this got rid of it quick. and they only ask for donations

Try a full System Restore. It works for me with literally every Trojan, virus, spyware, malware and everything else under the sun. Then, when you've done the system restore and you're computer is free of malware again, go out and buy Norton 360. It's one of the best antivirus systems around, I've been using it for almost two years to great effect :D.

first off, whats a processor's dual-core .exe file? That makes approximatly zero sense.

Are you sure you didn't just get one of those advertisement popups that say in big flashing flash animation that YOUR COMPUTER HAS TEH VIRUS, CLICK HERE TO CLEAN WHILE WE CLEAN OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT?

Never ever let their horses into your city. I know they're all pretty and well made and stuff, but just don't. Trust me on this one.

Also, get yourself AVG, Lavasoft adaware, spybot search and destroy, restart in safe mode and run all three (not at the same time obviously).

No, no no. Norton is eeeeevil, the stuff of satan; not to mention that you have to pay for it! From my experience, its just as bad as any virus.

Get: Malwarebytes anti-malware, spybot search and destroy, and for extra, probably unnecessary, safety get Adaware (the free version).

Scan with those - if the combination of those three doesn't get rid of it, do a system restore as the fellow I've quoted suggests.

N.B. - Download these only from respectable/famous websites as there are hoaxes out there.

Spybot Search & Destroy and KillBot. Both absolutely lethal anti-virus programmes; there is pretty much no virus under the sun they can't eliminate.

What OS are you running? If you are still on XP, search for a program called ComboFix (all one word) and download this. This is bar none the best cleanup agent I have found. If you have found the right file, the icon should look similar to an old 'Thunder Cats" logo with the cat white instead of black. However the program is only somewhat effective on Vista, and I don't think it will run on 7 at all.

As far as some of the other suggestions, Spybot Search and Destroy is pretty good, and eliminates most problems, however I can't stand Norton 360 it uses way to much system overhead for my tastes. If you can try to get a program called VIPRE, however this may require a controller server (my version does) and may not be the best solution for home use. Unfortunately most home AV solutions take up too much processor and RAM resources compared with similar corporate editions.

Another really good free anti spy/malware program is ioBit Security 360, its a free download and has caught a LOT of stuff trying to get into my system that Malware Bytes, Spybot & AdAware missed. I use all of those programs, but I only let 360 run in the background.

I've never heard of a "dual-core.exe" either, so it sounds like you might be getting spoofed, or maybe there's just something seriously wonky with your machine.

Also, check out Hauri ViRobot, which is a lesser known anti virus program which has a free trial you can download. I use it instead of AVG & it catches stuff that AVG misses. It also has a bunch of system optimization tools as well.

Good luck!

that's like fixing a broken down house with a bazooka.

It's a good last ditch effort, and it will work every time, but it's excessive.

Make sure you use a browser with some sort of security.. Firefox with NoScript generally does the job.

Okay, so I used Malwarebytes, and I think it removed the trojan. Now I gotta fix the problem with my display driver, which is still making things all funky on start-up:

That's not your problem. You set your colour depth too low. Go to Display Settings and change colours to 32-bit.

I'm going to second this. That message is complete bullshit.

It's always set to 32-bit. This happens as soon as my computer comes to log-in screen and after. I can tweak my settings to make it normal, but I don't want to have to do that every time I start my computer.

Haha no. And even once I saw it was about this I was still debating where or not I should say some stupid remark like "Dude, you just slip it on..."

Anyways. Just get a free anti-virus. Or buy a full one if you have the spare cash lying around.

Well, if you think it's a driver issue, you can try re-installing the driver.

Since you beat me to the horse joke (damn ninjas), I'll just point out that it was the Greeks who used a wooden horse, not the Trojans.
