First and foremost, my rig:
Windows Vista
Pentium Dual Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz (rated @ 4.3GHz)
4GB of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series (256MB I think, will hopefully be upgraded soon)
ATI High Definition Audio Device
Not the best but not the worst.
Next up, the issue:
Using VirtualDub without VHCapture means that obtaining any kind of footage is tricky. When the resolution was set to full screen the programme would become unresponsive once recording started meaning that stopping recording was impossible without the task manager. This then led to the footage being completely unusable.
When using VirtualDub in combination with VHCapture I manage to record full screen footage, however the frame rate was atrocious (averaging about 7/8fps), certain things like character models would flicker and there was no sound. All of these are kind of big issues I'm sure you will agree.
I was initially concerned that my system simply couldn't handle the process so I got the free FRAPS download to test it. This worked perfectly, not a single frame rate stutter and the sound came through crystal clear. I would simply use FRAPS however I intend to link my PC to my 360 and record footage that way and I am 98% certain FRAPS will not work for that, hence the VirtualDub alternative.
If someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or suggest a (preferable free) alternative then I will be forever in your debt and will make you a sandwich.
