I've got a problem connecting to xbox live. I've searched all over the internet and can't find a solution to my problem. Basically, I live in university accomodation and I connect my internet through my university connection. However, there's some kind of internet firewall that blocks my live connection. I don't know if it's relevant but every time I boot up the internet on my laptop I have to put in my username and password.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, does anyone know how to fix it?

EDIT: I can't change or turn off the firewall since it's on the university end of the connection.

It happens, I'll wait until there's text.

EDIT: Alright then, I have this problem every now and then. Ask your friends if their live is down too, I've had it happen to me a few times, where service is down in one area for a few days or hours. Tell me what your friends say and then I can help.

I've done it by accident, I've done it several times by accident, and always feel like a damn idiot afterward, which i'm sure the OP feels like now...give him a moment..

It was a joke. The title was different a moment ago. Normally I wouldn't comment on it.

EDIT: I meant that MY post was a joke.

Tis no joke. I just accidentally hit enter, and for some reason that posts what I've written. I just changed the title is all. Didn't like the first one.

It sounds like you will have to close down the firewalls to your internet connection.
I can't. The firewall is the university, and I can't get access to it.

There's your answer then.
Thing is though, I can connect to the internet via my laptop so I should be able to rig up my live account. All I need to do is somehow get my xbox to put in the username and password that allows the internet to run.

Hmm, I used a wired connection when I'm at school but I'll see if I can help. When you configure the network connection there's an option under additional settings where you can put in a user name and password. Does that do anything?

It's for connecting to the internet. Everytime I open the internet, a window opens prompting me to put in my username and password.

my school does this the beginning of every year. They block in coming connections to computers if they don't have a virus protection software, and seeing as your XBox isn't a PC it won't be seen as one on the network either and will be blocked. Talk to your schools IT department, they may have something you can register your Xbox with (We call it Gamernet) so that they can open up the network for your XBox'x unique MAC address

Call the tech desk at your university; you can't be the only trying to run internet to a console. Or ask somebody else on your floor. Or, though it probably won't work, run the internet through a hub. Maybe having it unlocked on your laptop and plugged in to the 360 will help, but most places only give you one IP, and I don't think the hub would actually help anyway. But if you want to feel like you're doing something...

Then it should be possible I think (and not a hazzle). You can type in password and name on your 360. Got homework, so Im not going turn on the machine and look now. But it shouldnt be that hard.

I've tried doing that. Does nothing.

Its probably just a filter, from what you have described of it. Wouldn't doubt it being a good ol' Barracude filter, although those types don't usually ask for passwords, they just filter.
Or, your particular institution might be running their own intranet. The username and password rings a bell to that specific answer. I doubt it would be extranet though, as educational institutions don't usually go that far.

If either of these are the case, then their is no XBL for you, unless you order your own ISP service to your dorm room.

Good on you man!

Until then, you could try loging in to the internet on your labtop then swaping the Ethernet chord into your active Xbox and start up live. That might work.

Is there a way to use a MAC address without registering first? It's just that I've already asked the IT department, and they're useless.
