I recently tried to replace the HDD on my parents PC and for some reason it won,t turn on the LED on the MOBO still works but the on/off switch doesn't work need help!
I had everything connected I already tried running just the MOBO (IE only having the MOBO,PSU and switch connected)MercurySteam said:So it's not POSTing? That's weird cause even without a working hard drive, the BIOS should still come up. Did you disconnect anything else?
I shall look into it I still have a fall back computer who,s switch I can usexXSnowyXx said:Well it isn't a hard drive problem...you've either broken something or unplugged something. Go through all the connections and make sure they're connected properly...since the mobo is getting power it might be the connection to the switch. Failing that, seek professional help.
If it was booting before then you've probably done something. If the button that turns the computer on doesn't work anymore then make sure the I/O connectors are in properly otherwise the power and reset switches won't work.henritje said:I had everything connected I already tried running just the MOBO (IE only having the MOBO,PSU and switch connected)MercurySteam said:So it's not POSTing? I left those connected when I worked on it I,m afraid I fried the MOBO (I forgot to discharge myself) is there a way to check that?MercurySteam said:If it was booting before then you've probably done something. checked it didn't workxXSnowyXx said:I doubt the switch(button?) would have broken, you may have just loosened the connection to it. If you check it and it doesn't fix the problem, you've probably got worse problems
I'm yet to meet someone who's actually managed to fry a mobo from doing that. Two I've had die, one got fried by a PSU fault and the other I think slowly got faulty, and then a swift kick to the case hastened its demise (was never a very good mobo).henritje said:I left those connected when I worked on it I,m afraid I fried the MOBO (I forgot to discharge myself) is there a way to check that?
Electrostatic discharge is a pain in the ass because you can never tell when you've stuffed something up. Your issue is that it's not powering up, yes? The only things I can think of is that the I/O connectors have come out, the ATX power plug for your mobo is unplugged or your PSU has shat the bed.henritje said:I left those connected when I worked on it I,m afraid I fried the MOBO (I forgot to discharge myself) is there a way to check that?MercurySteam said:If it was booting before then you've probably done something. That's about it, really.
I have power and reset buttons on my actual mobo, though you probably didn't custom build yours so I don't really now what to do.
