Hello, I am a memeber at my college's anime club and we need some help.
The club itself is around 20-40 people and consists of card and video gamer's as well as the usual Otaku.

The problem is we suck at making money for the club. Our bake sale's never do good, and the game tournaments never do all that well.

We need idea's and we don't have any good ones.

I know how hard fundraising can be. For the past few years I've been the bar manager for my Army unit, and raising money was always hard. The biggest issue I had was the fact that all the fundraising attempts were directed at the same people, the unit members. This year, partly due to a change in structure and that I no longer have to grovel to the Brass for permission to do things, we're hoping to run a lot more public fundraising.

One venture we have in the works is providing and manning coffee machines at an annual event in the local community. Without too much detail, it's a charitable event where participants take part in a 96km walk through local bushland with 36 hours to complete the course, simulating the Kokoda Track. Because it's held in the middle of our winter, and there are teams crossing the finish line throughout the night, we anticipate a pretty good number of teams and family members wanting a coffee or 5 in the wee hours of the morning. We've estimated each coffee will cost us $1.50 and we'll be selling for $3.00. So, 100% profit margin.

Maybe you can look into an event in your area that you can do the same sort of thing. Doesn't have to be coffee. BBQ's work really well too.

i know an organization in India which helps non profit organizations to create a "money making website" choosing products from amazon and other shopping sites. they help non-profit organizations and fundraisers to create a website for themselves and they also sponsor the website for about six months. you can get their guidelines by visiting www.ngofrfastincome.com and click their post "create a website". i think they have very good schemes. you say you have 20-40 people and if each one of them sign up, you may get some cash prize of of $25 or $50 ... pls write to them and get it clarified. you can also have live chat with them

Re-enactments for money. Basically, put on RP Shows for your town to watch. Everyone loves a good show :D

I'm in my schools Thespian society, and every Wednesday we sell Jet's Pizza to pay for the expenses of buying make-up, costumes, scenery and the like. I don't know exactly how much money we make, but we run a good profit.

We sell pizza because my school doesn't serve lunch on Wednesdays; I'd suggest you find a need or constant complaint in people around you that your organization has the power to rectify--for a price, of course.

Issue I have is that this is a big school, and even with the amount of people we have were a smaller club compared. The school is in PA so we can't really go outside for the next 3 months.

Create an event, people like games.

tournament(of anything) is usually good. Let the winner have a small cash/prize though.

I'm in the UK so I don't know if the pricing structure is the same for you, but we've always had good results with Krispy Kreme sales; basically you buy in bulk and sell for a profit, but either go on pre-order only with a couple of dozen spares or make sure you know how many you're likely to sell or you'll end up wasting cash on unwanted dohnuts.

Bingo also works, sell the tickets then split the proceeds with half as the prize and the rest going to you, if you can persuade teachers to call out numbers during class or get permission to use the tannoy system (if you have one) to call out numbers every hour or so even better. Always goes down well at my place.

If you can get the proper documentation so as to not be running an illegal gambling outfit run a Texas Hold em tournament. A private club here in town runs em every month or so legally and they clean up.

You'll need to find someone that knows enough about poker to actually handle running the thing and setting things up. Charge a 50 dollar entry fee (or whatever you feel you can get people to pay). Then run as many 10 person tables as you can accommodate and take a 20-30% cut from the prize pool off the top.

The one here locally usually has around 100 people and charges 50 dollars a head with 40 of that going to the prize pool and 10 going to their club. They also run 50/50 raffles throughout the event as well as a few cash tables.

Speaking of cash tables, if you really want to clean up you can also run a couple of said cash games on the side for people that get knocked out of the tournament and take a 2-5 dollar rake out of each hand dealt. You get a couple people you can trust to deal and assuming your running 50 hands an hour you will be earning an additional 100-250 bucks per hour per table on top of what you earn from the initial buy ins.

I promise there are ways to make this happen legally and if you promote it enough it's pretty much a license to print money for one day every other month or so depending on the laws in your state.

The bottom line is if you provide people a means to legally gamble promote it effectively and run a tight ship you can pull down 2-3k for your club in one afternoon and depending on how often your state will issue gambling permits for fundraising you could theoretically run a tourney every other month or so.

Create an anime grab bag from old DVDs that your members no longer watch, create one or more collections of series and have a lottery for them (considering your school allows this). At a dollar a pop hopefully you'll get a lot of people who want to enter and since it's donated DVDs its all found money. You might also consider buying some new sets, it makes people want them more but there is more risk involved.
