I'm doing a monologue for English class, but I need good ideas/personality/both. I've taken some basic stereotypes, like Bob McKenzie from Great White North, which I enjoy, but I also can't think of a good topic to rant about. My ideas come up as dull and ill-fitting for the character, any good matches would be appreciated. School-appropriate please.

Well, seeing as this is a gaming site, why not talk about the reactions of the tabloid press to videogames? Talk about the culture of fear that they're trying to create, the sensationalism that they thrive on and turn it into an almighty attack on the hypocrisy and mind-numbing ignorance of the mass market press?

You don't even need to talk about videogames, actually. You can just pick whatever topic you like and then use that as an 'in' to however you want to aim the monologue.

I'd just go on about the election and politics in general. And do you need a character? That sounds kinda stupid...

Jack Thompson, "Video games are eevul".
Hugh Heffner (Mr. Playboy), monologuing his life.
Harry Potter, "Being the Chosen One 101".
Frodo Baggins, "How I saved the world with a piece of jewellery"

Easy enough to do monologues for famous fictional characters, ain't it?

Could you not grab a character from shakespeare? They love their monologues so it should be easy to write for.

I dunno, make shit up?

Pretend to be Jack Thompson. Plenty of material there.

Edit: Damn you Amnestic!

Unfortunately, yes. That is why I am here, posing an open question. It's kinda counter intuitive to write about your own experiences, but you cannot be yourself. Frustrating. I like the bashing the media topic, but who am I as the speaker? I have to have specific verbal "quirks" and the like that identify this person as not yourself. It's superbly annoying, but it arises from the fact we are reading Catcher in the Rye and Holden Caulfield talks like an idiot, with wierd sayings.

Some chivalrous, charismatic fellow who still believes there is honour among thieves. He is a master thief.
